Default Step 1 experience... Score 239

Hello everyone, I took my exam on March 25, got my result few days back. As u can see, my score is not that good, & I am not sooo happy...
But at the end , I am happy after all, because it actually ended. Whatever, I'm a average student & couldn't study very well. I'm going to tell u about my exam & questions.... On my exam first 5 question block was more like name 17, yeah everyone of them.
I have got some stupid question on those block, but that was fare.......
But, last 2 question block was killer block for me, I almost mark every question there, question were way too big, & so twisted. I think, for this 2 block my score got screwed up.

We all know, that usmle Questions are big & twisted... It was like in that 5 block .. As I was expected.... Again it was fare..
But last 2 block, I almost didn't understand, any q at all..... If question was easy, answer stems was like " what the hell"
Anyway, now I'm going to tell u about some of questions, I still remember.....
1. There were many anatomy question, like origin & insertion of muscle from both upper & lower limb.i remember 1 q was about muscle insertion in the distal phalanx of the little finger. Like that, question about nerve function, artery supply was also present. Okay,, this questions were provided with figures mostly. Lastly, there was a figure of mid section of the thigh, q was about finding the sartorias muscle from there..
2. Physiology questions was about graphs, & some easy ( arrow) q there too, like renin angiotensin system....
Okay,, I got 2 q about ecg , which I didn't expect. There was only ecg tracing, asking about diagnosis.
3. Biochemistry- was easy I think, more like u world & name, but yeah , I remember, a q about fat metabolism, it was a very big q with 6 different graph.
4. Pathology- almost 1/3 rd q was form pathology, 1/2 of them was provided with slides. Most of the q were understandable. I have got a q from name 17, I am not going to tell u which 1 it was...........
5. Microbiology- there was many q from micro. 1 was about "Jerish herxheimer reaction" . Others, were like u world . They hit every topics, bac, virus , fungus, helminths ....
Most of those were provided with figures.
6. Pharmacology- got some stupid q s from pharmacokinetics, those q s was easy, but answer stems was very confusing.there was overall few Qs from this subject.
7. Behavioral science & biostatistics- I have found many beh. Science q , 2 q about adhd on 2 different block, they weren't same at all. Others, were just as always.
Okay, biostat was just like u- world, yeah, I remember 1 q about " calculating PPv by using bias theory.

Overall, I can say this exams is about testing ur basic knowledge about every possible twisted way..
They test u about almost every topic, & simple things too, I remember a q about oxidation-reduction.
Oh I forgot, don't think there was no immunology & genetics q, I remember some way too big freakish q from immune, there was figures also.
Genetic Qs was as usual......

Lastly, I could say that, if my exam was end, like my first 5 block, I would've tell u not to worry much. But it didn't ended up like that. So, try from today, try to get good concept..
If I can get 239 , u all can get 260 easily... ....................... If u have any particular q , I will be here for answer.

& please, pardon my language mistakes. Good luck everyone...
Try harder, u will get it.

Nbme11- 234, 1 month back
Nbme15- 243 , 11 days back
Nbme 17- 237, 4 days back

Do not give any uwsa, at first read I use offline u-world, also during revision, 1 mo before I subscribe - then it was 87- 98 percent.

Hello Mahmuda, congrats for the score. Regarding anatomy- would you advice studying origins and insertions of muscles? Everybody told me that they were low yield

Overall anatomy is not low yield any more , not any topics. I see many students before me has got anatomy Qs about origin & insertion.
If u have time, go through that book which u use at ur med school, that will be easy for u, not all muscles in the body.. Just the bigger one- like flexor digitorum profundus, tibialis posterior, sternocleidomastoid, also, common origin & insertions.... Etc
I hope u get it

Post Congratulations!!!

239 is an awesome score! way above the mean You did great and should feel proud. It is hard test don't be too hard on yourself. Go out and CELEBRATE!

Few questions for you?
- how about CT scans, MRI's ??
- how about questions about step 2? some people said they got some of those?
- Were they any heard sounds murmurs hard to ID?
- You say lots of behavioral questions more like biostats or pysch questions?
- How did you feel about the physio questions on the exam? that is my weak area.

Any input or suggestion is appreciated. Thank you for sharing your experience and Congrats!

Well, about CT scan & MRI- I remember, Qs from neuroanatomy, respiratory system, & also from abdomen was provided with MRI & ct scan film. Specially from resp. System, every Qs was with either X-ray or MRI.
Yes, there was 2 Qs on 2 different block was with murmur & heart sound. They give u the heart sound on auscultatory area, & u have to make the diagnosis, just like the u world.
Physio Qs was as usual provided with arrows, some was easy, in fact most of them .. Some was with graphs & all that, just like u world ,
There is always some Qs, which are very twisted, but u can expect them, as because, it is a exam.

Overall, my physiology Qs was easy compared to nbme15, & 17..

By behavioral science, I mean Qs from ethics, psych, etc.. Lots of Qs was from there, well 4-5 q per block.

4 percent people get above 260 out of 100 and 10 percent above 250 so u r very wrong in saying 239 isn't good score .I think its a great score congratulations

Thanks Sam baloch for your comments.
For robin1881, thanks to u too, well, total duration of my study was approximately 13 months, initially my study was not regular due to personal reasons, 6-8 hours most, 5 months before my exam, i studied regularly 8- 12 hours a day.
First- Kaplan books with videos, I note down every single thing on my books. Except, pathology, for which I use pathoma. I did started with goljan, but it was taking way too much time.
Second- revise my books along with FA & offline u world.
Third- only fa & u- world., until my exam.

I revise fa total 4 times & u- world 3 times except micro & pharm. for, micro u world 1 time , for pharm - u world 2 time.

Thanks for the comment,
Okay, I cant exactly remember that q, but it was about apolipoproteins . All I could remember about that graph is, 3 bar along the x & y axis, pointing 3 apolipoproteins, 6 different answer stems.

Congratulation mahmuda, 239 is a great score!
Thanks a lot for sharing ur experience , really appreciate that.

-Can u tell me from where did u do all the X-ray, CT and MRI?

-What area of anatomy is highest yield? Gross ? Neuroanat? What additional bk did u do besides Kaplan, FA and uworld for anatomy?

-For Behav Sc, is Kaplan, FA and uw enough?

- Can you plz highlight the high yield topics of biochemistry too.

Thanks a lot and Many Congratulations once again. InshaALLAH ull get the Match.

Thanks Sadia.

Ok, for X-rays, ct & MRI , u don't need to spend ur extra time, go through fa , u world & goljan or pathoma. From there u will grab a good concept about those images during ur reading. That will be helpful for ur exam.
For anatomy, if u have time, go through ur book that u use during med school, for artery supply, origin & insertion. I didn't got enough time to go through that whole book, but I did take help from that.
I think on my exam, gross anatomy q was more, compared to neuroanatomy. Now a days, gross anatomy is also hy compared to neuroanatomy.
For biochemistry, go through the lecture of Sam turco, he give u the ideas of highest yield thing & fa , u world will cover the rest.

For beh. Science, those r the source u can use for build up of concepts & most of the things will be covered.
As this is a exam, no subject will covered fully. U will always get some stupid q on every subject.
