Why don't you just give FA a thorough read once and then do uworld all together? Remember, FA is more of a learning tool rather than an assessment. Now that you have already subscribed to the Uworld, why don't you just finish Uworld and then annotate stuff into your FA that you didn't know earlier or were deficient.

I don't see anything wrong wd doing it the way u r doing it , infact its a clever idea to go through a system in FA & then test urself of how much of the subject content u grasped by doing it in UW timed mode. If u ve a subscription for longer duration then it ll help u a lot but if u have a shorter duration subscription of UW(30 days) then don't do anything but UW coz its long.

I never mixed Questions ever. I always used your method and got a 251 last week I got my results.
It's smart and very time saving, it also creates more memorable and retirevable links.
Go ahead !

Wow Nina82, great thread! I actually posted a similar question a few months ago. Everyone I talked to said to do UWorld timed random, with Fa(which I understood because it could you used to the "random order" of step 1 questions). However, i found this plan flawed in terms of "effective studying" for the step 1, especially because its a hassle to go back and forth through the first aid and annotate(also because uworld doesn't give first aid references).

I too also think it would be more effect to do uworld and first aid together, principle by principle, and system by system. More links, more effectiveness, a lot quicker.

Any other experienced users, please provide your comments

Hey,
well what I did was : Study from Kaplan book ( eg : Cardio Physiology ), then if Goljan had a chapter, I would read it quickly too ( worked for renal physiology for eg ), then do the same chapter in FA ( ONLY cardiac physiology maybe 3 pages ), then do Kaplan Q bank questions of Carido physiology ( 23-30 Qs ) , then all UW Qs in that same topic 25-30 also.

So what happens is, you read something at LEAST 5 times in the SAME week !! You see the physio graph go up and down and right and left and you start to know that graph like it's your friend .
Damn that creates reinforced concepts in your head like no other way !!! Believe me, I could tell you EVERY single qs in Kaplan, UW that is related to Cardio Phys, because I know them all and met them at the same time. I get to know them much better because I am focused only on them, not thinking of biochem, or anxious about pharm.... or crying about path.
I get to know everything one by one, soooo well before I move on to the next.

It saves SO much time, rather than going through books here and there like a mad man !! Each topic would vary in time, but usually most things took 5 -10 days that way. It also frees you from carrying so many books. Break up your stuff and carry files in binders.

The other thing I did, I NEVER timed myself in Qbanks EVER till the day of my exam. I only timed when I was doing NBMEs or practice tests. I never timed even my second read in UW, I learned things and created links at the same time I saw them, rather than waiting 50 minutes to break them down. Other than it sucks your energy !! Save your energy to learn the concepts and create mnemonics that work for you in your head.
If you know your stuff well, time will not be an issue. It never was.

Don't take notes either, Try your best to treat EVERY concept and question as if your life depends on memorizing it and you are never going to see it again ! I stopped taking notes at the end. It saves ALOT of time and at the end, this is how you are going to retrieve it in your exam ! WITHOUT notes ! It's all in your head. Believe me it will be after this method.

Close your eyes, focus on what you have in your head, links, stories, languages, colors, images, ideas, concepts.
For eg. find the silliest story you can imagine, and stick in there.

The other thing is that once you read things 5-6 times here and there, in the same day, things start to be well established without any need for mnemonics or story links.

Good luck, I am so proud and happy that I did this method. I was expecting a 260+ and was so confident I was. Oh well, the difference might of been 3-5 Qs ??

Good luck. Ask me if you need anything
