Default oncology Q

a 38 year old female with distention and a CT scan demonstrate bowel obstruction with 6 cm mass in the jujenum . a burkitt lymphoma was resected from small bowel and a portion of the tumor was sent to flow cytometry analysis showed high S phase . mutational activation of which of following nuclear oncogenes is likely to be present in the tumor ?
a. c-erb B2
b. p53
c. ras
d. myc
e. APC

c myc is related to burkit lymphoma but it is a transcription factor as i know
so i go for P53 this time even i think it will be a bad answer,but i like to try new things hehe

Correct Answer the correct answer is C > myc

it is myc oncogene as it is activated in burkit lymphoma due to t ( 8;14) translocation. the myc binds DNA to cause transcription activition of growth related genes such as that for cyclin D1 > resulting in activation of cell cylcle ,, thanks everybody

P53 is a tumor suppressor gene.Its activation won't cause a tumor.its inactivation will cause tumor.Check the diff between tumor suppressor genes and protooncogenes.
tumor suppressor gene activation:no tumor
proto oncogene activation:tumor
