Drug Oral Contraceptive Pills OCPs and risk of cancer

I'm confused about the the risk of developing endometrial and breast cancer with the use of OCP's.
Goljan RR book says that OCP's are protective against endometrial cancer as they have progestins as well which opposes estrogen but it also says that OCP's is a risk factor for breast cancer!!
If both breast cancer and endometrial cancer are estrogen dependent then why don't OCP's have the same effect on both of them??
My question may sound a little dumb but im really confused here .. any help would be appreciated. thanks

What you said is absolutely right.

OCPs lowers the risk of endometrial and ovarian cancers because of the progestin protective effect.

However, the relation between OCP and breast cancer is complicated and there are several conflicting studies about that. It's generally believed that OCPs slightly increase the risk specially in those BRCA or family history positive patients.

But your thinking and concepts are absolutely right. Estrogen does increase the risk of (hormonally sensitive) breast cancers. That's why we give Estrogen Receptor Modulators (such as Tamoxifen and Raloxifen) to try to prevent the recurrence of breast cancer.

Some have proposed that there's another mechanism through which OCPs increase the risk of breast cancer (such as increasing the rate of cell division) rather than just simple hormonal effect.
