Arrow 208/79..hmmm..hope it still works for me!

Hey everyone!

Just got my Step 1 score, 208/79. I know it's not a very appealing score but well I still must Thank God! I don't know why but I am still happy though not very happy ofcourse. If I do better on Step 2 (if Allah wills), do you guys think I can make it to a residency program. I have always been interested in Psychiatry or Rehab.

Thanks!

I wasn't working while I prepared for the exam. I did Kaplan Notes twice for all subjects but did Goljan for Pathology. I did my first read with teh videos. I kept FA along my side throughout. I managed to do it around 3 times cover to cover. And ofcourse Uworld was a must! Good luck Sana!

Well.I wrote my exam on 27th October. I began my Uworld (timed, random, unused) on 15th September around in 25 days. I scored a 74% on that. I took NBME 12 on 18th September (which was definitely a stupid thing to do as it was just 3 days after I began my Uworld) and I got 194. I took my second NBME about 7 days before my exam and got 200. This one was after finishing my Uworld and ideally I should have scored better, but I only improved slightly.

What I believe I did wrong was that I should have completed my Uworld again. I did however makes notes and printed them out and I wasn't even finding Uworld difficult. But for some reason, I wasn't comfortable with the NBMEs. I also went for the Free 150s and I got a a overall 94% on that (I just added the scores of the 3 blocks and calculated the mean).

Congratulations!!! Yes, you should be happy. You're done with this beast! Rehab and Psych are the least demanding of residencies. I think you should be fine.

Thanks for posting and best of luck on your following endeavors.

My cumulative average was 74% on Uworld. I enjoyed doing Uworld and I didn't find the questions too difficult. However, I was bothered by the NBMEs and the real test.

Default This puts me to think...

First of all... congrats, I think you should feel happy... you are done with this part.

Second, I would like to ask you: since I am also using UW all along the way, FA as my bible, Kaplan books and videos to... pretty much like you did (with the exception that I feel UW question really hard), do you have any advice that I could use for my exam? I am doing it on next march...

Thank you

Thanks doc! Well, you are pretty much on the right track. Since you have time till March, why don't you try to squeeze Kaplan qbank in, atleast for 2 weeks or so. But as everyone says, Uworld is a MUST! I believe the more questions you do, the better it would be provided your basics are strong. Just remember your basics will be built strong with the use of Kaplan videos and notes and FA will augment the entire process. And I must say that each and every line of FA is important and can be presented to you as a question. That's what I felt during the exam.

Revise Uworld ATLEAST twice! It will help and read all the explanations for all questions whether right or wrong.

One more thing!I panicked while I was taking the exam and that was because of the experimental questions that were presented. I didn't know then that there are about 5-10% questions which are not marked. Thus, I got so anxious during the exam that why am I unable to attempt these questions and this ultimately made me spend more time on these questions. Be prepared that you will have those questions in your exam. Ofcourse we try our best to answer all questions. But the ones we already knew, don't be spending tooo less time on them like I did.

Good luck!

Wow, is it after you did wrong questions or during first pass only without doing wrong questions in the end?

This was the first time I did Uworld (unused). I didn't get time to do it a second time. However, I made notes throughout of stuff I found difficult or confusing and printed them out later. I used the notes later to revise. But I don't know what I should say that even though I did well on the Uworld, I didn't end up with a high score on the real test... And the real test is really what matters..hmmm...sigh!

Its really strange,-so high score in UW, and so low scores in NBME and real exam.
But dont give up!
Did you take kaplan qbank or another qbanks except uw?

I think that's where I made a mistake. I just did Uworld. I should have done Kaplan qbank too.
