Default in need of motivation

Im from india currently doing my internshp and preparing for step 1.
I need somehonest words regarding preparation. I have seen everybodys experiences and have understood what and how to study and i hav started anatomy according to zum zum method.
The problem is half the time im scared to even start my that day's quota of prep... my pgs here are scaring me that i must attend kaplan classes or it s not possible to study during internshp... im a kind of person who lacks self confidence and that is my biggest enemy.
They tell me that even if we get a good score imgs get seats in rural and remote areas...they also say i shudnt start with anatomy...basically whatever i think turns out wrong according to their opinion..
Im married and eventually have to settle in america after my studies here. I have the burden to complte my step 1 before graduation as i have to do my clerkship too....
I tend to make simple mistakes and this made me lose my good ranks during my earlier medicine entrance exams...and has further dampened my confidence...
I dont want to be scared and i want some advice guys...please help me face my fears

It definitely looks overwhelming at first, but there is only a limited amount of information to learn. The USMLE can fit the entire Step 1 content outline on 30 pages! That's not so bad, right?

Obviously the content outline is very general and you can find thousands of possible questions within it, but it illustrates the point that the information to learn for this exam is truly finite. With that in mind, some thoughts for your situation:

1) Everyone finds their own way. Take a class of 200 medical students and you'll find 200 different studying styles and preps for step 1. You'll find your own way and it will be different than everyone else.

2) Don't let "perfect" be the enemy of "good enough." If you can't get through all your pages for the day, who cares? Do what you can.

3) Nobody can read the tea leaves. The truth is nobody can predict what will happen and whether or not you'll land the residency you desire. Nothing is written in stone at this point.

4) Take a practice test as soon as possible. You need a baseline number to gauge your progress as you study. Maybe try one of the older NBME forms or one of the UWorld Self Assessments. Expect your score on this practice test to be VERY LOW. That's completely normal. But you need to know where you stand so you can measure how effective your study is.

5) Find support. Friends, family, study partners online, tutors, etc. Surround yourself with supportive people who care about you, understand what you're going through, and can be there for you to lean on as needed.

Finally: You are NOT charting any new territory. Everyone in the world who takes this test is stressed and worried and has struggled to learn all they can for it. Everyone is worried about how it will impact their future career. The details may vary between people, but your story is not unique and there are thousands of others who have gone before you.

This means you are definitely not alone. You are not the first person to feel this way. Thousands of others have, and they ultimately made it through. You will too
