Thumbs Up i finally got the result ( 247/86)

hi everybody , this is my first post and i have been using this thread for quite some time. the thread has helped me a lot and it gave me directions to follow and what to do and what to expect
i finally got my result and it seems ok given the circumstances
i got 247/86 ( took the test on November 2nd, 2011)

i would like to post some of the materials i used and some of the results i get during the preparation
i used kaplan 2011 lecture notes and first aid for usmle step 1 , 2011, goljan pathology book and some pathology slides online .
total duration was about 5-6 months , study type was on -off type but in the final 3 months i was serious with average 8-10 hours /day
  • Did kaplan Q bank initially with average score of 72-74 %
  • Did usmle world Q bank 100% in the final 3 months - got ~74%
  • Took usmle world self assessment exam 1 month prior to exam ( predicted score of 242),
  • Took usmle world self assessment 2, 10 days prior and get 750 ( predicted score of 261)
  • Did NBME 5, 6, 7, offline ( difficult to tell the score
  • DID NBME 11 online 1 week prior and got 600 ( predicted score of 245 , which i was not happy about
  • Revise FIRST aid and my lecture notes after the last exam
  • Did the free usmle step 1 exam ( 150 question , got 90%correct , three days prior to exam , predicted score from score estimator >261 )
all in all the exam questions were more of clinical and they don't seem that difficult but the score was not as astonishing as i presumed it to be
i advise test takers go through the reading materials once and to DO AS MUCH QUESTIONS AS POSSIBLE ,

hope the tip will help some of you as it has helped me a lot , thank you a lot for all of you who has posted your experience .

what was ur fist time solving UW cumulative score? coz 2nd or 3rd time solving of uw tends to raise the percentage

Default immuno

the immuno and genetics questions are more clinical with animal (rat) models and may need recent memory and the questions are not as difficult as uworld but could be tricky , questions resemble more of NBME questions and there own free online questions ( make sure u did online questions )
when u do more question u feel that you know the question type from somewhere , wish u luck

Hello, and congratulations. At what point were you getting 72-74% on Kaplan's Qbank? You say you used it in the beginning, but if you were to do it right before your exam, how would you have done?

I am averaging 74% on Qbank (and a little higher on the last 10 blocks, about 77%) and am trying to see where I stand, since I will be taking the exam soon. I am confident since I have done well on three NBMEs, but I want to know how other people with similar Qbank scores to mine have done on the tests.

Default how long

i read kaplan lecture notes two times , and each books will takes about a around 6-8 days with anatomy and goljan took me around 10 days , i used to do the u world at night and reading the lectures at day time , i prefer to read fast first round and repeat the subjects rather than taking more time and read it only once , actually we all have our own style and if u have a tendency to forget u better read it fast first time and try to repeat it so that u will remember more of the content , about the q book it is better to do it after u finished each subject and it will also help u to memorize more and help u how to look at question , from my little experience i can say that if u have short time i prefer reading the content once and spend more time in doing the questions , i think for the sake of the exam u have to know how to answer the question , or pick the best answer , its all about knowing which one is the incorrect answer rather than knowing the correct answer so that at the end of the choice u come up with one best answer , best of luck

Default about kaplan

i did kaplan q bank during the first three month ( subscribe for three months ) and as i stated the final average was about ~74 , u will get higher score at the end but it will pull the average down b/c initially i had relatively lower score , anyways i think i might get higher result if i did it during the last three month , after going through the reading again and after experiencing test taking techniques ..... hopefully u r also doing usmle world and the questions in Uworld are relatively harder require some mental exercise and that will help a lot for the final exam , and i think if u get consistently good grade in the NBME that will really predict your score in the final exam , u will get an average of +_ 5 from the NBME prediction ( as it was the experience of my friends and users of this threads ) so i wish you luck and spend the final days of the exam by going through ur notes and do also the online free USMLE step 1 exam ( it does not hurt to do it b/c i found similar questions in the real exam , ) wish u luck again and hope that u will get what u dreamed of .....

Default about percentile

hi hitman , the usmle has changed the correlation b/n the two digit and three digit since October 2011 , and there will no longer be 99 for score above 228 -230 , they say in there web that the " new two digit score will be profoundly lower than the previous values " so that is why the two digit is lower and it will make you feel uneasy but that will be the way it is from now onwards until they change it once again ..... , anyways they say they report the three digit foor ERAS and that is what matters for the residency and .. gooodluck in your score
