Unhappy Please help me...I think I failed...again

Well, I dont know where to begin. I failed step 1 the first time by a few points and I totally blame myself for the lack of proper preparation. I focused on Qbanks rather than FA so I ended up getting the easy questions wrong and the hard questions right. That being said, I promised myself I would do both Kaplan and FA the second time around. Mind you that the first time I took step 1 i had completed UWORLD twice so I felt like it would be pointless to use it again, hence, why I used Kaplan.

Anyway, I took step 1 almost 2 weeks ago in London, England and I cannot begin to tell you how difficult I felt the exam was. I mean, I am not a person that likes to use excuses to get out of things but I felt I was MORE THAN prepared to sit for the exam. I memorized FA "COLD" and I averaged a 67 on Kaplan Qbank on the first try. I went in there thinking that there is no way I would get a question I hadn't seen before. Anyway, as I said before, the questions were out of no where and maybe, just maybe, 25-30% of the exam was from FA. Of those 25-30%, they were extremely detailed and long nit picky questions. Everything else was so obscure that I can't even google the questions. I try to remember some questions but I simply can't, seeing that the average size of the questions were 2 paragraphs long with contradicting information that made you ask yourself "WHAT IN GOD'S NAME ARE YOU EVEN ASKING ME". Further, the test had questions with 0 information.

For example, I had a question about "a lady" (no age was given) with a 2 cm mass in her ovary and I had choices from a-g. Just writing this thread is so difficult for me because I really felt I was ready and I feel like I was "screwed over" with a test of that caliber. I remember the first time I sat for step 1, it was wayyyy easier than this test. I keep hitting myself on the head saying that if I had studied the way I did for the this test the first time, I am pretty sure I would have gotten a 99. Btw, I had taken 2 NBME's prior to the second attempt (forms 6,7) and scored 220+.

In short, I think I knew less than half the test. The other half of the test were almost PURE GUESSES. I am scared, depressed, and confused. I don't understand how it is possible for ECFMG to give an exam like that and expect a person to pass it. I here that some of the questions are thrown out and there is some curve (none of which are actually proven to be true) but that still doesn't make me feel better bcs I KNOW I DID HORRIBLE on the exam. If anyone has any input or knows anyone that had a similar experience and would like to share that would be great. Thanks.

well, most of the test takers that come out of the exam, say they feel exactly the same way. NBme is a very very accurate predictor of your exam.....almost 99 percent of the time, people get what the NBME 7. so cheers

Can u tell how many times u went through FA and Kaplan q-bank?

did u do Kaplan LN??

and first time around did u do just Uworld?

what was your prep time second and third time around?

When I took form 7 I knew I did well. This time around, I know I did bad. That is the difference. I have went through FA like 9 times already. I know where everything is and I can more or less recite to you the book if you ask me anything. The first time around all I did was uworld and then I would look up the questions in FA (which is nowhere near enough). From the different forums I have read, I was advised to not only familiarize myself with FA but to memorize every single word...which I more or less did.
First time around, my prep was a month. Second time around my prep time was around a month and a half. I did not do any Kaplan lecture notes other than the Behavioral Sciences lectures....which were very beneficial. I stuck to (DIT- which totally blows because everything that Mr. DIT said not to worry about came on the exam). Have you already sat for step 1?

Look......ur results are not here yet....I have already told u that alot of people think that they did crap on the exam and than end up getting scores...what their NBMe's predicted,,,,,,,,

Now u could be right in saying that u didn't perform according to your expectations on the exam....that may be true.....

but the truth is, u can't do anything about it can you..........the only thing you can do is.....say to urself...My NBMe were good, which means I did put in best effort.......and rest is upto God.....

Do Not be overanxious....wait for the result.......success and failures are a part of life............

I studied 15 hrs a day....I have done FA at least 14 times but I bought it from the first day I started medical school. Out of those 14 times, I would say I went through FA 4 times (thoroughly). I did DIT. I put all my trust in DIT. I did what he told me to do and then took NBME's in between and the last week before my test I read FA over and over again...

Obviously none of that helped whatsoever so I don't know if my advice is beneficial. I am the one in need of advice . This sucks. I dont want to put you down but I sincerely feel that the exam itself has different degrees of difficulty depending on your luck that day. The first time I took the test I felt it was easy but I failed by two points bcs I did the dumbest mistakes ever...the second time...let's just say if there was a better word than impossible I would use it.

Hey dreamer112233, I am sorry that u have such a bad feeling at the moment, but I guess the only thing you can do right now is sit and wait. So my advice just actively forget the USMLE for one more week, its not worthing thinking about something all the time and feeling bad, especially when u r not sure about the result. Go out, meet friends and have fun in the meantime. U will know more in a week od 2 and then u will be able to decide what to do. Sometimes even when one has a terrible feeling, it ends well! Hope it helps.

other than the well appreciated moral support, could you please be so kind to mention if you know anyone that felt the same way? if you possibly know someone that had a similar experience and the outcome of that experience (good or bad). Does anyone agree that some tests are way harder than other?

1. SUPRESSIONNN!!! leave it to GOD.

2. Majority of the smart ones feel this one

3. the key was getting the concepts in , and the way yr NBME scores go, you did well, its jus tthat when u came out of the 350 questions, all u are focusing is on the REALLY NASTY ONES, reflect on yr amazing, easy questions, it might help u ease it.

4. I WISH U THE BEST SCORE.

p.s: wish me luck, sitting the exam PRETTAYYYY soonnn

but you know what they got 251,243,243 . . .so difficult questions have more points . .i m sure you are gonna get more than 220,,,these nbme's have very good correlation . .
