Warning! FAILED STEP 1...Should I ignore genetics? Plzzz help!!!!

Hello everyone, I failed my first attempt at Step 1. Was completely disheartened but managed to pull myself together and work on my problem areas. I have come very close now to covering all my topics that I was weak on and went over my First Aid again and again, Goljian, Pathoma and DIT. Also went over my UWORLD subscription. I still however can't seem to understand Genetics. Especially probability Qs.

I dont want to waste my time on this Genetics and just want to go over all the other HY topics and subjects. Can use some pointers....Appreciate any help I can get

BTW my score was 191

I think you're on the right track. If you can't understand genetics using the review books, use Youtube.

By the way, How was your UWorld cumulative performance before you took the test? (what percentage were you getting) and how were you doing on NBMEs??

Thanks for the encouragement

My UWORLD cumulative was less than 55%
and made a huge mistake of taking offline NBMEs

I went through FA and Kaplan for some basic understanding of genetics and did manage to understand the basic material in FA but am not able to apply it when doing my question banks. Anatomy was also my weak area so I'm working that. Although I know it is not extremely high yield, but thought I might be better off sacrificing Genetics rather than Anatomy.

I'm having the most difficulty with probability Qs. Do you know of any good youtube links or videos? Thanks a lot!

Genetics isn't a huge portion on the exam so knowing what is in FA is enough. Don't waste time reading other books. If these resources are working for you, explore some more. But I would still recommend FA and pathoma and repeat them over and over again!

Just do the genetics that is in FA. Don't waste your time looking at other genetics and biochem resources.
