Question I need advice for the last 4 weeks before my exam!!

Hello everyone!

I'm new to this forum, and I hope someone can give me a bit of advice about my preparation.

I'm an IMG, and graduated this year. I've been studying for the step 1 for about four months now, and regularly for the last two. My exam is at the end of this month and am hoping to get at least a 238 on the exam.

I did the Kaplan Q bank after my first read and scored around 75% average. I finished the q bank early november, and went back to read the subjects that were killing me : genetics, biostats, anatomy (still need to get on those ct scan cross-sections), and physio.

After about 3 more weeks of revising my weak areas, I bought USMLE world. Started it on the 25th of November and I've done 60% of it. My average so far is 79% on timed, random, unused mode.

Now here is where I'm worried: I'm being told by my friends that 79% is no longer a competitive score and the step 1 is getting much harder, with questions trickier than usmle world. I'm really worried now: I don't want to reschedule the exam because frankly I can't study another month beyond this one!!!

I've bought an NBME, and the two UW self-assessments. I plan to do them this week after hitting my weak areas again (images, heart sounds ). I'm not too worried about the UWSA's, but the idea of giving an NBME is really freaking me out. If I screw it up it'll be a big blow to my already shaky confidence.

Can anyone give me some advice about the best way to study in these last four weeks? My plan is to complete uworld, revise my incorrect answers, and then stick to first aid/med essentials/my own annotations. Absolutely no new stuff right?

Also, can people who've actually taken the test recently pitch in about how it compared to usmle world??

Thanks for taking the time to read my long and rambling anxiety-laden post.

Oh and one more thing. I haven't listened to any of the Goljan audio lectures. Since I still I have 4 weeks, should I give them a go?? I've heard they really make a difference...but my attention span sucks for auditory learning.

hi
i think your friends mean a 2 digit score of 79 on the usmle is not competitive. besides the 2 digit scores are not important that much anymore
however 79% on first attempt of uworld is excellent scoring imo, what i am trying to say is that your scores are very very good. people say the nbmes are the best predictors so do that asap.
all the best

Thanks for your reply. I understand now about the scores.

I will try to improve the usmle world score with more attention to ct scans etc. and then hopefully score respectably on an nbme.
