Default step2-->step 1

I need opinion of someone who took step2 first and then step1. Does taking step2 first and thus covering many basic science issues along with clinical side of the exam help you during step 1 preparation?
I'm taking 2 first and because it's been 10 years since I finished med school most of the times I need to go back and read the related step 1 lectures. It's going to be 6 months of step 2 studying and I wonder if I can take the step 1 sooner, say maybe in 2 months of studying. Has anyone ever had that kind of experience?
