Kaplan Medical Kaplan videos without reading the lecture notes?

I wanted to take notes into my first aid with kaplan videos. Is it a requirement for me to read the kaplan lecture notes before watching the kaplan videos, or can i rely on the videos by themselves? for example, i read thru kaplan pharm lecture notes(without the videos) and hated it but i heard kaplan pharm videos are amazing. The main reason for me wanting to skip lecture notes and focus only on videos and taking notes from videos is to save time. Anyone with high scores that used only kaplan vids? thanks!

Hi, someone who passed the step I posted in this site ( this summber) a while ago and said that she watched the entire video instead of reading the note. If you search this forum under step I experience, you may come across her post.

I think it depends on your study style.

Thank you for telling me. I will try to look for that post and if you find it before I do, please share the link.

Sabio, Steptaker, any other medical students/doctors with advice please?

the main point of usin the kaplan notes is to understand what u learn ,understand the concept, some of the topics like biochem ,immunology ,u m8 want to listen to the videos and read the kaplan lectures at least once otherwise it would be a bit tuf relyin jus on first aid....also dont forget annotate notes from u world into first aid as wel

Default kaplan notes without video

hey medicinemen1...did u find that link......actually even i am finding it quite good to watch video alone as it helps me to retain a topic like a movie. and can u tell me on an average how many pages or GB for videos one should finish it in a day.

I am doing the same!
I have completed physio and pharma with video only(without notes) first and I did biochem videos along with lecture notes as biochem is my weak point!

Hello,

I have not touched FA yet as this is my first reading. But I usually write down the points in paper which I guess tough for me to revise them later..

I think you should do whichever works better for you.
I personally learn better with books than videos.. So I read the books and use the videos as a review for those chapters which I think are important or dont understand.. But I can't depend just on the videos because I wont be able to recall anything.
However, some people work better with videos and dont like reading books. They also tend to recall the videos better.
Whereas there are some who need both.
So see which kind of learner you are and do that. Because it's not just abt the time. You will need to know/recall the material later.
Good luck!

Default kaplan tanscripts

by transcripts i meant, written version of oral lecture. though in lecture notes everything that a teacher teach in a video is given but there are certain facts and points they add while speaking...so a transcript is exactly same as of what was said in a video.

benefit of that is you don't have to add points to your notes and you can go through video quickly.

I suggest you read beforehand and watch videos.
It will help understand better. Having the book out helps as well.

Oh!
I haven't heard of those... I dont think there are any.. But keep checking.
I prefer listening to the videos and adding my own notes that way I dont fall asleep while watching the video.

Default Important note

Hi
As you I did ask around about the Kaplan vids, and read previous threads to hear which vids ppl in the forum recommended.

Then I started watching while writing key notes on post its to put in my FA. One thing I just want you to consider is shown in my following example

From some threads I found Micro and Immuno was not as highly recommended as for example Molecular Biology. I did both Micro and Immuno vids first, as it a subject I tend to be weak on, just because I keep messing things up and mixing the stuff The vids helped me a lot, clarified things, repeated things often enough for me to feel this was a first good read to get additional notes in my FA for the second read. Then I did Molecular Biology (has one vid left) and I figured out for me that vid was more watching - yeah know this one, ohh one nice thing, more yeah yeah... And I realize why. It is simply because I am not as weak in that area compared with Micro

Summery: The best vids are probably going to be the ones where we need that little extra help They are clarifying and I do find them good watching, even the ones where we are not as weak, as they have some good pointers which is not always as easy to get just from reading. However, this is my experience I am not a very strong book person, so for me these vids has been just amazingly good so far, so I will keep on doing it! For me the vids are my first read
