Unhappy My step one score less than predicted

Hi all

I am a IMG from India, got my score today, I am no where near my predictors. honestly i was expecting a lot more

Here is what i did.

UWSA 1:256 (20 days before the exam)
UWSA 2:259 (15 days before the exam)
NBME 7:245 (8 days before)
NBME 5:235 ( 2 days before)

REAL DEAL: 227/82

I have no idea what happened but i was expecting at least a 240 on this one.

First block: It looked easy, I think I marked around 8-10 questions (I mark them unless am not 100% sure of my answer and often get them right)

Second block: fair (marked a few maybe 6-7)

Third block: done good again (less than 5 am sure)

Fourth Block: perfect (marked one)

Fifth Block AMN!!!!This one was tough.maybe 15?

SIXTH BLOCk: easy.(6-7 i think)

SEVENTH BLOCK: Not sure i was asleep but it was good.

After the exam i sat like a cuckkoooo and calculated the correct ones and the incorrect ones..
I was able to recall at least 220 questions of which i got 13 wrong....

What went wrong?????

Did anybody get his/her score today or someone who had a similar experience...please post. With my belly full of beer right now, a 227 looks good, but i still think I could have done better.

Hi dextrocardia

Am not sure if am the right person to ask about how to prepare but i would definitely suggest you to do at least 2 q banks before you sit for your exam.

I did all the NBME offline and i think there were at least 4-6 questions from the five, six and seven

I started with the videos and tried to finish them at the earliest and did U world and Usmle Rx online for at least five months, did multiple revisions of the q banks

I can assure you a similar score if you do at least 5000 questions(3000from rx and 2000 from u world)

Doing questions helps you time your exam well,If you are doing a q bank right now i suggest you continue with it,if however you plan to take a q bank i would say go with USMLERx first and then jump to U world, also revise your u world close to your exam.Make sure you go through your First Aid along with the questions...for biochem i would suggest you read kaplan even close to your exam.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice.

When you say you did all the NBME exams offline does that mean you also did NBME 5 and 7 offline?

Default I got similiar score.

My score 223/82.

it was shocking initially then i read that two digit score marking has changed and we have to see three digit score only.

On this score, where I stand. Should I prepare for step 2ck.

pls comment.

Thanks every one for your wishes,i was not happy until yesterday but today i felt good
I think am satisfied with my score.

About tools i used..

Kaplan,i used it along with all the questions i did,Followed First Aid to get a good recall.

About Pathology... i can bet there is nothing better than Goljan's

I went through the books over and over again,Time spent was close to ten months, while i attended my rotations..

Towards my last month i was reading for like 10-15 hours a day.I don't think my last month study or Usmle Rx helped me improve my score...

Nbme 5 and nbme 7 were done online..

NBme 6,11,12 were done offline...scored around 170-175 questions correct.

Do you think it's important to do ALL of the available NBME questions?

I think nowadays the score is significantly lower than what people used to get b4 october 1. So we guys are kinda unlucky. Earlier I used to see ppl getting 99 and above 240 every day on this blog but over the past few months hardly few 240+ i have come across. Man this sucks but do we have any other go???

YES,9 NBME,200 questions each,1800 questions in all.I would say do all of them,U world tunes you to write your exam and NBME fines tunes you and makes you more confident. Also NBME are more close to real exam experience, there are lots of easy questions and a few very difficult in all the NBME for which no one knows the right answer!!

I would say if you have time do all the NBME questions.
