Thumbs Up Kkat Step 1 Experience (241/85)

Hi everyone I’d like to share my step 1 experience

-Time taken for preparation: about 7 months ……. started on May 2011, exam on 28 November 2011
-Material used: First aid 2010 , only …….. +3 times repeat
-Qbanks : UW ( done twice got 72% and 86%) + USMLE consult (only around 700 q done only got 71%)
-NBME: Form 5 : got 440 6 weeks before the exam
Form 7 : got 560 1 week to go
Form 6 and 12 …… offline (no score done)

NBME are very very very very important …….. I got like 4-5 question copy-paste from NBME
I took step 2 CK before step 1, that helped a lot

-Real deal 241/85 …..

THANKS GOD :sorry:

241 is just 85?? i thought your percentile is normally 99 when you get a score of 230 +

I would suggest to do as much NBME Qs as u can , I got Qs directly from NBME (even the same biopsies pictures !!!!)
So if you have time do some offline NBME , try to look for explanations ( I goggled it ) and study them.
Goooood luck
**** do NOT use offline NBME to assess your readiness but use it as high yield source

Personally I didn’t like USMLE consult …… the questions are easier than UW and the explanation are NOT well organized as UW , USMLE consult explanations are copied from text book and I found them some time conflicting with UW .
USMLE consult may be a good qbank to use during medical school not in last months before the exam.
On other hand some of my friends used USMLE consult and found it very useful

Here is my timeline :
1st read of first aid : about 7 weeks ……. depressing
2nd read : about 5 weeks
1st time UW (along with writing notes) about 2 months
Last 6 weeks ( the golden weeks for high score) ….. did NBME 5 then UW 2nd time along with first aid 3rd time + some usmle consult then NBME 7 , last week I did NBME 12 and 6 offline ……

here's my 2 cents for you : TAKE your time in the beginning for studing and memorizing First aid ( which I found very very difficult yet complete study source for step 1 ) memorize it as much as you can …. but in the final 6 or 4 weeks before the exam you should study like you never did before …. 10 hours a day or more if you can and you get an awesome score ………….

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD LUCK and aim for 250+
