Smile step 1 experience -dr.muhamad

hi every body thanks god i took the exam few days ago
i want to share my experience with ppl in this great amazing forum..
first of all this exam is not mission impossible ,,it is a doable exam ...and it freaks us out more than it deserves...
now let me tell you about my experience...
i started to study about one and half year ago i started slow coz we didn't use english so much in our collage so i needed more time in the first 2 books...i read the notes twice and watched kaplan vids twice twice too
the second time reading i added the FA to the combination and added the extra info on the FA and solved UW with it and added the notes on FA too .i used to get 6-10 questions wrong in UW first time and i felt good with that
i did those reading in 15 months coz i am slow ( other ppl can do that in 8 months or maybe less but i was very afraid from the exam and i studied alot of details) anyway after i finished those i started with FA for the one last time and solved some questions from kaplan qbook and from this forum -actually i read all the questions here from the beginning and it was good and helpful
finally i would like to say few things for the ppl who would like to take step1 in the future:
1- use kaplan for everything except anatomy and pathology ..for anatomy if u have time read high yield book...except for neuroanatomy in which kaplan is better..and pathology no need for golgan at all BRS is enough and you can use golgan pictures which is nice for understanding
2-dont be afraid the exam is not so hard ,,you will get about 30 questions very easy ,10 medium and 5 hard each block.
3-time is enough in the exam and you can read all the questions and all the answers dont skip reading anyline ..
4-kaplan qbank is way far and not like the exam at all...and UW is great and way harder than the real exam but you need to excel it so you can face the exam with strong concepts.
5- pray for me to get good results

i didn't solve anyone line NBME

thanks for this forum and all members in it now im moving to step2 forum ,,,see you there,,,,
ill post my grade when i get it ,,i hope its good

im happy to answer any questions

actually i solved nbme 12 offline and i got 12 wrong answer out of all and the offline answers mostly correct
i solved nbme7 too but didnt calculate the answer i just solved it to study the questions

i advice you to do nbme 7 11 and 12 and study the questions not only solving like if u dont understand why the answer is like that then go to the net search
i did them about a 25 days before the exam

same as yours but dont worry the changes in the new books are not so important and it is unlikely to c those small changes in ur exam
good luck

i studied from kaplan 2009 ....there are some difference but i dont think they have a great importance (those info you can catch somewer else in the books) but if you didnt start reading yet then get the new books if you already started then keep up with your books
BRS is enough i didnt use goljan but i saw the pics of goljan so if you want you can see the pictures but also not so important
UW is great i think you need more than the last month coz u dont want to feel furstrated if you get alot of wrong answers ,,so if you have more time start at least 3 months before the exam with UW ,,,if you dont have time then work hard anf try to finish UW in your last month ,,dont worry ,,just work hard

you can still get some questions out of kaplan but you can decide if it worth to read huge books like HY anatomy for those one 1 to 4 questions you may or may not face

for CT and MRI i get only few questions with them
but to decide what enough for you ,,you need to test your self with some CT or MRI (you may use those in kaplan Notes) so if you think you can what is happening in the pictures then you are safe if you feel it is difficult then try to read more and watch more pictures

Default Niiice! Congrats on great score!

Congrats with awesome score!!! And best of luck with step 2

As you I am a slow reader and I have started using the K videos. Do you think the videos and FA with KMA is enough for physiology?

Which of the videos did you find most helpful?

Which of the videos were least helpful?

Thx in advance for helping

thanks for ur wishs
actually i recommend u to spend time on behavioral and statistics coz u will face them again in step2 and most ppl do bad in those sections
I can't give u certain topics coz the questions could come from everywhere but since u r slow like me I advice you to use pictures alot...like for example if u faces a disease in ur books that is hard to memorize google it and put on pics and try to make a folder of those pics for any kind of info and try to revise them always when u get bored and at the end those pictures will make u memorize a lor of things that you will normally forget
