Finish each subject from Kaplan lecture notes/Audio lectures, then read its FA(try to memorize it) and then do its UWORLD.. Plus download the Free torrents of Dr. Goljan audio lectures. Make a habit of listening to it on daily basis. Good Luck. Remember us in Prayers. Thank you!

Hi, I'd like to ask your opinion regarding the books I use. I've been reviewing for Step 1 since september 2011 however I am not using purely Kaplan books but rather I chose to stick to the books I used for the Philippines physician licensure exams which I passed last august 2011. Because I don't like the format kaplan use to present topics and I think I have almost mastered the following books( read them cover to cover 3 times for the Philippine boards and have read them again twice since august 2011 till present). The following are the books I used: First Aid for USMLE Step 1 2010, Kaplan biochemistry, BRS physiology, BRS pathology and baby robbins pathology, Snell Anatomy, Katzung pharmacology, Kaplan behavioral science, Micro MRS; Should I stick with these books and re-read them over and over till my exam or should I start doing Kaplan now? I'm confused because most people recommend Kaplan and rarely mention some of the books I'm using. Any comments would be greatly appreciated

take an online NBME self-assessment test. if you score well, you are on the right track. if you don't score so well, maybe its time to switch up your study plan.

If you have memorize each and every word of the books you have mentioned, I dont think that you need to read KAPLAN. First Aid should be your main book. Read it over and over again. Use rest of the books as reference books. Complete the UWORLD. Read the explanations. This is the second book which you should read at least two times. Take offline NBME 1,2,3,4 after finishing your 2nd read. If the score is more than 80 percent, you are ready for your step 1...Complete FA once again, take NBME 5,6 offline. Then complete FA for the third time and take online NBME 7 15-20 days before your exam. Then read FA and take NBME 11 or 12 a week before your exam.

Hi! I'm from the Philippines, too. I know what you mean. I read non-Kaplan review books for the local boards before I studied for the usmle. In my case, I still read Kaplan just to be on the safe side.

My suggestion is start with usmleworld already. Since they offer usmle-like questions, you would be able to gauge which part/subject of your review is weak. For example, in anatomy, they have CT scan questions that are not discussed adequately in Snell. Furthermore, they have subjects that are not emphasized in our local boards. You have to make sure you got immunology, genetics, histology, and neuroanatomy covered. After usmleworld, that's when you work on the topics you're having difficulty with and read more on the corresponding section/subject.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Your method sounds a lot like the one students in the US use.
I don't plan on using Kaplan either, except maybe for Biochem.
Kaplan is not a must! There are two methods, Kaplan LN or individual review books for each subject. So don't worry! Your plan sounds great!
How do you like Snell Anatomy? I am still trying to decide on an Anatomy book.
Definitely take an NBME during your prep, if you feel you are not doing well you can always switch to Kaplan. I don't think it will be necessary though.
