Default Starter and scheduling

Hi guys.. 2013 graduate here planning for 2017 match
I am planning to give step 1 January 2016, step 2 Ck on June 2016
It will be grateful if anyone can help me with the following questions
By what month at least I should take the step 2 cs
I want to do 3 months of observationshi(so planning to do cs after 2 months or 3 months of obsevationahip)
Overall I want to get cleared what is the deadline for submitting all the results.. Training certificates etc(or at least can predict the month for deadline).. I already wasted 3 yrs. So plz need to know it clearly
And yes.. By what time should I start to apply for visa and what visa.. J1?..or any visa that will allow me to stay for maximum time
