Show Teeth passed...About a week agoooo! (Long post)

hey guys heres my 2cents on the step. - Just a regular guy who WANTS to be a doctor, I'm not a genius.

some context: i took it on Aug 17th and got my score about 8 days ago. I took a lot of time off in-between studying. it was really on and off for some time during medical school (dominican rep). once i graduated and came back to the states i dedicated all my time to the Step. I passed my first NBME in October 2014 and applied to take it but due to issues with my medical school, i didn't get my permit till June 1st of 2015. So during that time i kept studying but there was a lot of discouragement and a lot of uncertainty. i didn't want to burn out but i had to keep things fresh. Took some time off between feb and april, where studying was minimal. i should have kept going but i wasn't even sure if i was going to take the exam this year or not.

anyways a 2 weeks before my permit i failed Nbme 11(188) (may 27) i read FA one time through and did 1 block a day for 2 weeks and passed nbme 15 with a 207.
i had already done about half of uworld by then. i finished Uworld in the next month or so and read FA. i took a UWSA and got a 215. i wasn't too happy with that bc i heard that it over estimates by about 10pts. so i decided to read FA again and keep doing questions. by then i had already finished uworld one and a half time through. took NMBE 12(207) i freaked out! The next day i took NBME13(202) i was devastated bc my score was drooping. at this point i think i had about 3 weeks for my exam. i decided to take NBME 17 the monday before my exam and i got a 200!!!!! me and my wife were really worried about maybe having to postpone which we were not willing to do. We prayed about it and we decided to take the exam in faith.

i took the Free150 at the parametric center on Aug 3rd prior to NMBE 17 and i scored a 73% pretty unsure about what that meant, but i would VERY MUCH recommend doing this. its only 75$ ad it really helped take the edge off on test day. helped me time my breaks and got me comfortable at the centre. i was REALLY REALL REALLY REALLY stressed during this whole time period, so anything helped. helped me realised i could and would get answers right on test day. unfortunately for me i had a lot of ppl telling me i would never pass step 1...so the mental aspect for me was pretty big in retrospect.

took NBME17(200), decided to take the exam. That week i tried to study monday and tuesday but my stress was through the roof. I began obsessing over every page of FA bc my score had been dropping. i wasn't sleeping, i couldn't sop thinking about my NBME's and how it didn't make sense that my score were dropping. i decided to stop studying on Wednesday(my exam was the following monday) and started watching "Keeping up with the Kardashians" marathon.

Exam day i went i real relaxed(bc i had 5 days of no study). i told the Lord i don't want to study for this anymore and started my exam. first 3 blocks felt easy. 4th block was rough, i know i did bad on that one. took my lunch and decided to listen to music instead of look through my FA. Block 5 and 6 were easier than 4. block 7 was bumpy. ran out of time on the last question but i had already selested an answer(although once i though about it, i knew it was wrong, but i couldn't change it). I left the Exam feeling very confident and feeling like i did well.
To MEEEE Step 1 was most like Uworld..... i don't care what ppl say. The questions were written similar to uworld, some were more simple but nothing like NBME.

I got my score and i got a 216 on step 1! i am so happy with that score bc i according to all my NBMEs i was doing very bad. the most predictive i can say was UWSA1. on Uworld first pass i got a 64% which indicates i should have probably done a bit better, i was very stressed. i don't want you to think that I'm invalidating NBME's (take them seriously) but the are definitely not the last word. Only God has the final say in your life.

216 is not the highest score but for me and my wife it felt like a 240.

I learned that my peace and my joy is not dependant on a 3 digit score or if i did well on a block, or if i read 50 pages and did 2 blocks. Put your plans in Gods hands, trust him and let it go. i don't mean don't study...i was studying from 4am-6pmand some times till 9pm(burned out) i put my part every day.

if i could do anything different in the last 3 months: 1)REST. 2)stop freaking out at what the forums say. 3)have more confidence that if God got me through med school, i can do step1.

for what its worth this was the most accurate predictor of my score: http://clinicalreview.com/ClinicalRe...alculator.html

if you have any question u can ask me, but just really wanted to encourage you guys, especially IMG's. don't be so hard on yourself, you CAN do this. FOREALZ
