First Aid Ruling out FA from the real exam?

hello
I've been reading some experiences from recent exams saying that FA is rubbish and questions are away from it and doing kaplans again and again is better..

Is this true??, is it possible that the usmle exam will intentionally rule out or try to avoid what is mentioned in FA and start giving us questions abt points not mentioned or not clear there??

its not about RULING OUT or avoiding FIRST AID

its just the depth of detail questioned is much more than first aid

and if you have 4-6 lines of the question stem.. dont u think.. most of the details given in first aid about the diseases.. are already mentioned in those lines??

the answer is usually asking for something else.
so yes FA might help u diagnose.. but not lead to the answers

hey..
the exam has always been tough its just that its getting more in depth with time.. and advances..

they want to know precise details.. of what genes do... where they do it.. how they do it..
not just what enzymes are affected in disease but what the downstream/upstream and other effects of that is.

following is the suggestion i put up in a different post

FOR ALL FA USERS--- (since iv been getting this question alot)
if you are into ur end or even the mid of prep now is not the time to switch books....
review whatever is given in first aid...

go thru the extra FA notes u have added from uworld/kaplan qbank.....

however when ur doing FA.. maybe u can open up a kaplan book or any other detailed book u have studied.. by the side.. n read thru the points missing in FA...
maybe this could make up for the lapse in info!

some say if u memorize FA word for word ur mark will be high and
some say it is absolutely garbage to read..

I mean with decent concepts and FA done properly with ex. DIT and qbank is it still not enough??

nbme 7 i found to be pretty much straight out of first aid...and i scored well on it, but I dont want to go into the exam and be taken by surprise...

is this a change that has happened now or was it always like this?

Can someone who has taken the exam this year please explain this to us as this is pretty confusinggg

thanks in advance

i gave my exam on 15th feb.
i did have questions on first aid. but it was not an exam made primarily from first aid. first aid was indeed helpful but less than i anticipated.

nbme 7 is dominated by questions based on first aid, but i feel the pattern has changed now since the new scoring system to a longer, more clinical exam.

so approach should be, keep reading first aid and uw but do not neglect kaplan. more importantly keep searching about signs and systems of diseases on wikipedia or other resources

keep you ears and eyes open for everything u can get, from anywhere. this exam is getting bigger. but till we are there to prepare, its not impossible .

Gluck

Default how to add kaplan to first aid

hello seniors, i am new to this forum need you guidance

i am done with anatomy and physiology but it took me more time than expected. so previously i was thinking of doing kaplan thrice or atleast twice, but know as it is taking more time, i am thinking of adding important points in FIRST AID.
so my question is
1) what the best possible method to add notes in FA ...
a) add notes after each chapter i finsih from kaplan .....
b) add notes while doing FA for the first time and till that time have completely done with kaplan.

and one more thing how does Doctor's in trainin

1) annotate uworld notes to first aid, particularly only key points that will help you solve the question
a)adding kaplan notes is fine too if you have time and if it helps you understand the stuff
b) i didn't understand what you said here

doctors in training is amazing, better than kaplan in my opinion

well i think when people say fa isn't enough is true, but it isn't garbage. if someone is only using first aid to prepare then they are an idiot. first aid should be used along uworld or any question bank. You should read the explanations of a q bank to understand concepts and use first aid to make sure you can review all the facts fast(something which is imposssible with uworld)
