Can someone please explain why you do pcr for mycoplasma pneumonia?

I hate memorizing PCR for this and that,I understand how its done but would like to have a big picture of when and why is infact PCR recommended for certain diseases?

PCR is used to identify anything with DNA.
It is faster than other methods of identification like culture.
In the case of Mycoplasma which is not visible by Gram's stain, this would be the best method.
