Hi
I just started my self, and here are my plan so far. I am still a medical student in my clinical years started studying for the Step 1 while some of the stuff is still "kinda fresh" in my mind. I have not fully decided if I am to take the step 1 this comin fall, or in the beginning next year. I do know however I plan taking the Step 2 in summer 2013 as my graduation exam covers more or less the exact same things. Then I will apply for the Match 2014 (If my scores are good enough ) and not take the Step 3 until I am in a program. My plan is for IM program and most do not require Step 3 before entering the program.

Bonus with taking the Step 3 is you can moonlight and you can apply towards an H1-B Visa if you are an IMG.

Hope this helps

Some programs let you work "on the side" for extra money, so if you are short on the money with paying down student loans (I am currently working next to my studies to try both save up some for that, and to get less loan) or other expenses some find it nice to have that oportunity for extra income.

Hope that helps
