Default Should I purchase USMLE Weapon / TrueLearn Qbank? Please chime in!

Almost done with Rx-Kaplan-UWorld, is USMLE Weapon / TrueLearn worth purchasing?

I searched and searched all over Google and all the reviews are from 2012 that is almost 4 years ago.

Has anyone purchased or used this bank and can chime in?

3 months is $162 with the 10% off Facebook code so its not that cheap.

I really do NOT want to do UWorld a second time, can anyone please help??

Do you mind sharing your NBME scores at this point? After doing 3 qbanks. It's kinda hard to digest that even 3 Qbanks aren't proving to be sufficient to achieve a high score. What's your target score?
Anyway, if I were at your place I'd go for becker. Never really heard much about this truelearn Qbank. I haven't done becker either so can't say anything solid about it. But looking at its faculty and all if any qbank looks promising enough to me as the "4th qbank", it's becker.
Good luck

Im a non traditional student and learned all the material back in 2009 took a break due to health reasons so i had to basically learn everything from scratch the past 9 months via Kaplan videos, Najeeb, and Pass Program.

My NBME are between 200-250 USMLE Step 1 equivalents (NBME 11,12,15)

So basically Im hovering around a pass or fail.

I still have some gaps in my knowledge and am scoring between 50-60% on the banks. I am planning on sitting for the exam at the latest in January.

I have done one complete pass of the PASS program 700 page lecture notes, and one full pass of First Aid 2014.

Now I am finishing up Kaplan, doing some Anki decks (not spaced out just one subject at a time), and am shooting for anything above 240 (since I have been in school so long and have a few failures on my record)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I feel you should just revise FA and the question banks you used. All you need to ace the exam is in these sources. The only thing left to do is learn it perfectly. Its not about the number of questions you do, but what you learn from each question. Don't just read the question and the right answer and move on to the next one. Everyone from my medical school has stuck to just Kaplan videos + FA + Uworld and scored 230-250. Its a proven strategy so stick to it.

When you talk about revising the banks what do you mean?

Do you mean going thru each question again and reading ALL the answers right and wrong?

Yea exactly.
Create a random block timed test and answer it.
Then go through each question. Read the explanation for each option and figure out why the other options are incorrect. Make sure you learn the educational objective perfectly. Refer FA as much as possible so that each time u refer it will be like a mini-revision

I didnt spend too much time on Rx explanations (bit lacking) but have definitely spent more time on UWorld and Kaplan

Thanks for the advice

No problem. Spend at least 10 minutes on each question at least the first time. UW+FA 3 times can definitely get you a score around 240

How many questions would you do a day maximum?

Right now in order to finish up my Rx bank im doing 88 questions a day in Rx and another 44 of Kaplan at night with a friend

Probably going to throw in a block of UWorld in the afternoon as well

Right now am in my first read of UW. I finish 60 questions a day max. I spend a lot of time on FA too because it helps me when I read things over and over again.

How do you divide the day between the two?
How much time does it take to complete 1 block of uworld along with its explanations?

I do both at the same time. Say I am reading a question on thiazides. I read the UW explanation and then I open FA and read what's given there on thiazides. Next time I come across a question on thiazides, I do the same. But this time its more of a reinforcement. I make sure I spend around 10-15 minutes on each question since it is my first read . Now since I have just 10% of UW left, its going a bit faster as I have covered most of FA. I still have 2 months before my exam. Am hoping to read UW+FA at least 2 more times.
Anyway this is just my personal experience. My UW % has climbed from 69% to 77%. So I guess its working. I'll be answering an NBME in a couple of weeks and only then will I know exactly how effective this strategy is.

Thats sounds great. Best of luck.
When is the best time to start doing uworld? After how many passes of fa would you recommend doing uworld?

I started both together. I feel that works better since reading just FA won't make much sense since its just a list of facts. How far are you in your prep?

Am done with first read of FA but i feel my concepts are not strong yet so am going through some topics from kaplan and doing kaplan qbank side by side. What book are you using for anatomy?

Don't worry about that. As you answer more UW questions, your concepts will be more and more clear. I did kaplan notes+ videos. After that started UW+FA.
When do you plan on answering step 1?

Cool then you have plenty of time. Keep 4 months for UW and NBMEs along with FA. That actually covers everything. But its left to you. If you feel answering more questions will help reinforce stuff then do that

Hi guys,
KM188 your strategy sounds similar to mine. Did you initially start off with kaplans? Is this second round of kaplan with kaplan qbank helping you? Do you feel there's an improvement?
Well I started off with kaplans + videos but my first read was way too spaced out (1 year) and with distractions. When it finished I figured my concepts aren't down good enough. So now I have started with second read of kaplans + videos along with first read of First aid and RX qbank. I'm going faster this time (3 months hopefully). Once I'm done with this round (by the end of dec), I'll start UWorld in jan & will do it twice atleast, along with NBMEs. Aiming for end of March too. Target is 250 & I don't wanna compromise on the score.

How does the plan sound for that?
@Datson ? And thanks for your advices in the above posts. Those were helpful!

I feel you may not have enough time. Like I said, you need 4 months for UW and NBMEs, which means you have to start UW by November end. After I finished Kaplan I too felt my concepts are weak. But now after 1 round of UW I feel a lot more confident. Am not sure if you have gone through UW yet, but its like a textbook with detailed explanation of the concepts. Even better than Kaplan. I took 2 months for UW first round. I have 2 months before the exam to finish UW + FA 2 more times.

ok thanks for your detailed advice datson. Good luck! & please do share your NBME scores when you take them. I'm planning to do UWorld exactly the way you described. Even I believe in giving questions enough time to take the max out of it instead of rushing through the qbank.
Well technically, my eligibility period is mar-apr-may, so if I don't finish Uworld by March I can push the exam a bit, maybe end of april. But I don't wanna do it more than that.

Hello, san.usmle.
Yes i started with kaplan lecture notes and videos intially. I didnt watch all the videos second time except some of physiology. I would advice you to start learning FA and dont waste your time on kaplan. It has alot of extra stuff. Get your hold on FA and start doing kaplan qbank. It'll help you learn. Go through the topics in kaplan lec notes for your understanding purpose only (dont waste time learning stuff).
And datson is right, uworld is used as a learning tool. The earlier you start, the better it is.

I think FA is enough for micro, immuno, pharma, patho, biochem and bs. What do you guys think? I'll be doing these from fa+uworld only.

Yes KM188 I'm doing kaplan for understanding purpose. I understand concepts better through videos, didn't cover the videos properly the first time that's why doing them again.
I am also doing FA along with this. I'll take your advice and focus more on FA compared to kaplan.
Thanks
Good luck to you all!

Everyone has a different style of studying and understanding concepts. If you're comfortable with FA by itself (ofcourse along with UW) then it's ok. But in my opinion, for Biochem, Pharm, Path, BS, if I try to read FA alone it makes no sense to me. I feel like I'm reading French/Chinese. Videos are a must for understanding these subjects. For biochem I liked kaplan 2014, for pharm & BS kaplan 2010, for path Pathoma & it's videos.
For micro/Immuno only I think it's ok to skip kaplan.
This is just my opinion. Rest is upto you. Good luck!

Did you do UW by System or mixed?
Do you recomend another QBank (Rx, Becker, Kaplan) before doing UW or just jump right into UW?
