Question Black Based Ulcer?

A 33-year-old man in Arkansas presents to the local clinic with fever, chills, headache, and generalized myalgias and arthralgias. On physical examination, an ulcer with a black base is apparent on his right hand, and epitrochlear lymphadenopathy is noted. A careful history reveals that the man is a hunter and trapper, recently trapping and skinning rabbits. Which of the following organisms is the most likely cause of this man's illness?

A. Borrelia
B. Brucella
C. Francisella
D. Leptospira
E. Listeria

Yes.That s Francisella. The disease begins as a rupturing pustule followed by an ulcer, with involvement of regional lymph nodes. As u said,it may be spread by handling rabbits or rabbit skins, or by bites from ticks that feed on the blood of wild rabbit. U re good guys

the black based ulcer threw me off a little too. in franscicella its unceroglandular with lymphnode involvement (swelling). but i kinda related the ulcer + lymph node swelling + rabbits = franscicella.
