Default NBME score 250 equivalent to Step 1= 175

Hi everyone, I wanted to ask ppls advice and get feedback. I took NBME 17 (which I think so far is the most difficult) today (11/10/15) and got the above score. Not too happy, since my exam is in less than 3 weeks. Not sure what to do, as I cannot postpone anymore. Is it possible to make up for this and still somehow pass the Step 1 with the time given? Please give me your honest opinions.

You should definitely postpone the exam.
Ideally you should do UW another time and FA 2 more times.
But since you have to finish the exam soon, read FA a couple of times and give a different NBME and see where you stand.
I don't understand why you need to finish the exam now since you can apply only Sept.

Gotta agree with datson. The real thing is a lot more tricky than form 17. How did you perform on the previous forms?Personally, I would be very scared to give the exam if I had anything less than 220 on form 17. Not sure what you read for path, but try to do pathoma if you can again. Focus on FA and your weak areas from nbme's.

When ppl share or talk abt scores are they referring to NBME or Step 1?

You can extent your 3 month eligibility by another 3 months in case you didn't know.
You can't worry about the cost. A low score can cost you residency in the US, especially if you have no contacts.

Right now it's a revision of FA and UW from here on out.Do u think I could increase my Step 1 score in that time? It is a matter of 50-60 points on NBME.

Its not unheard of. People have scored much better sometimes on the real deal compared to nbme's but the reverse has also happened.
If you have just three weeks, I would probably not worry about UW right now as it takes time. Even if you have already done it before, you'd spend an entire day reviewing a couple of blocks from UW. The best strategy would probably be to focus on FA and the areas you are not really confident. Like I said, if you have the time, try to do pathoma (at least listen to the videos again).

Thanks, I appreciate it. Maybe I'll assess myself again in 2 wks and c where I stand. But I don't want to screw it up either.

i dont have a solution for you because im struggling with low nbme score as well but i got lot of good suggestions here and im trying to work harder

i have a question
i see people posting when they get done with their first read of the material and i mean kaplan they give nbme and their score is already 200 to 230

is it for people who read faid only and not follow complete kaplan series end up with such scary nbme reality checks ? i ask because i read lot of people saying they did kaplan for everything and did nbme and they already are in passing score after that they improve moire or try to improve

are people at great fault who did not do kaplan series
i did firstaid with pathoma and physiology kaplan still i end with low nbme score not a pass

i feel i made a huge mistake i should have done what people do huge mistake

Everyone has a different method of reading I guess. I know people who just did UW, FA, pathoma and score above 240 on the exam. But if you are an IMG, kaplan really hammers in the concepts to lay a foundation. If you are not comfortable with the concepts, directly jumping into FA might not be such a great idea

It's a twisted exam my friend. Questions are made in a way to trip us with even the most fundamental concepts. Key is to focus on areas you are not confident at all. When is ur exam?

Don't worry about kaplan now. Try your best, that's all we can do. If you have the time, try lionel's pharm kaplan videos and do pathoma. Reading pathoma again with videos for the second time increased my nbme score by about 15-20. That, along with FA and UW and you can make it.
