Default Got scores but confused???

Hey guys, I got my step one report today, its says 228/83. I am an old IMG, I do not really know whether i should be happy or sad...mainly because of the two digit score, I took NBME 7 one week prior and got 207. Was aiming for atleast 220, bought worried about the two digit score....any comments...? By the congratulations to everyone who passed!!

Yes, in retrospective, what is your advice for us waiting to clear the exam in 1 month or so? Would like to know how to keep all the tiny pieces in place in the last 4 weeks. Thanks!

i would still stand by my statement
FA is not enough
u need to do more in depth stuff to do much much better

if u go thru what iv said.. I DID DO MEDESSENTIALS... just not enough of it.

maybe wud hv been better had i changed the proportion of time spent on Medessentials vs FA

MUST DO according to me
1- kaplan notes...+/- medessentials (upto you but i wud reccomend it)
2- DIT
3- NBMES online - latest ones.. offline-other ones for practice
4- Kaplan qbank.. after kaplan notes to really understand everything in the notes.. and make it rock solid(helped alot)
5- Uworld
6- free 150
7- CT/XRAY/MRI/ Murmurs
8-- FA

GOLJAN-- atleast one read for understanding and listening to his lectures...
but it is a VERY time consuming method.. so i didnt go to it for revision.. just understanding the facts.
once you get hold of the concepts you donot forget them.
(i only reffered to goljan for the topics in path i had a problem with)

about the thing of FA vs ME(medessentials)

I would still say that ME is a fair game to do.
i did do it during my prep just didnt revise it enough during the end...
it is more time consuming.. but has ALOT of DETAIL..
i still stand by my statement

if i were to do it again.. i wud do BOTH ME and FA.. but wud give more time in proportion to ME than FA
(obv considering you hv stuck to it from day1 after kaplan notes)

but thats my personal way of looking at things
rest is upto ur time period n how ur study pattern n stuff is

the BEST indicator to find out if something is working or not..
is to do 3 RANDOM TIMED blocks on any qbank.. n then take the avg n see where u stand.

look at the explanations...
1-was it cos you overlooked something?
2- info was not given?

doing this ACTIVELY by urself is the best method to assess ur study plan..
cos it will vary for everyone!
no one person can tell u what is enough n what is not.

hi congrats for the second time
what u say is right , but we have only few weeks to exam , for me and i depended completely on FA and Uworld
so what is your advice ???what is the best to do in these last weeks

does doing offline NBME is benificial , i find many new ideas in nbme so is there question directly from nbmes??

u gave great advice , I wished to hear it not now but few months ago

hi congrats for the second time
what u say is right , but we have only few weeks to exam , for me and i depended completely on FA and Uworld

thank you for your good wishes.. about ur questions
PLEASE STICK TO WHAT YOU HAVE DONE from day one.. near your exam donot experiment.. trust urself
have faith in your knowledge!

so what is your advice ???what is the best to do in these last weeks
revise FA
.

The last few weeks stay CALM
Revise thru whatever book uv reffered to..
FA/Medessentials
Look at pictures
Listen to murmurs
Do the CT MRIs
Revise the formulae etc
Free 150questions
Just basic stuff again. DONOT DO ANYTHING new

does doing offline NBME is benificial , i find many new ideas in nbme so is there question directly from nbmes??

its not the same exact questions.. but you know NBME enforces key concepts which might show up in different forms..
plus you get oriented to exam type questions
and you hv a fair share of evenly spaced questions from all subjects

u said in ur exam experience that i did FA 6-7 times
now i did it 3 time , so in doing it for multiple times do u read it just as a story , i mean just read it or u rememorize it again?
thanks

i have a problem when it comes to just reading books like that.. i cannot do it more than once.. i tend to skip stuff.. or am reading things but mind is somewhere else.. i need it to be INTERACTIVE for me to keep my concentration up.

so the first time i did it.. i just read it.. added in notes etc... but after that i cudnt..

next time onwards i mixed it up...

a few suggestions:-
1-do it with DIT (videos or only sheets).. or
2- do a revision of uworld system wise..(solving 46 questions in timed mode) and then after the questions.. go thru the wrong ones...
then flip thru FA to see what u actually remembered and the parts you forgot.
3- get a study partner or just some one who is not from medicine.. and explain to them what u hv understood. or just call out the chief points u remember (a non medico is better here.. cos even if they dont understand they will listen to you patiently.. LOL)

these were some of the things that worked for me.
hope it helps you too

Awwwwwwwesome score!!!

I am at my first "run" through things, so far I have been doing KME (Kaplan med essenstials) and FA with Kaplan vids and books. Timeconsuming, but hopefully things will stick Also planning doing DIT, not sure when... Also, still need to figure out when to start q-banks, just cause I sux just reading stuff... goes slow. I tend to learn better when I see the direct use of the knowledge

Like your list of things to do, and with that score: Ooooh yeah! U did great!

Just so happy ppl are sharing advice when they do great and have done the exam, it is really really helpful for us just started!

Again - Big Congrats!!
