Heart Benefits of pericardiocentesis!

Benefit from pericardiocentesis will most likely result from:
a. increased LV contractility
b. increase preload of RV
c. decreased excessive afterload
d. decreased excessive preload

ans: B
why not C???

there is no excess after load in tamponade , its just that the blood collected in the space compresses the ventricle and prevent it from getting filled .. so loss of compression will fill it and increase preload ......

classic question, you'll also find pulsus paradoxus with this scenerio, the blood is pressing against the RV making no preload, u wanna relieve that pressure by taking some blood out, resulting in more preload on the RV

Why would you think excessive afterload in patient requiring pericardiocentesis?
There is compression from covering it will decrease afterload.
