Bacteria Isnt this Diphtheria!

13 months old infant immigrated from Guatemala. Severe coughing that precipitate vomiting.
Physical exam: mild fever, conjunctival and facial hemorrhages.
gray, fibrinous exudate covers the uvula and bleeds profusely when disturbed, the vaccine that could have prevented this syndrome?

a. capsular polysaccharide
b. capsular polysaccharide conjugated to protein
c. killed virus
d. live attenuated
e. toxoid

ans: A
thought it was diphtheria and chose e but is wrong?

I think the answer mix up the polysacharide capsule conjugated to dipth toxid ( of HiB) and the toxoid vaccine of DTaP. The toxoid itself is effective to mount antibodies against dipth toxin. Unless there is another way to reason, I think ans is E.

I agree that the answer should be E - sounds like diphtheria to me, too

Looks like 100% Diphteria with a classical presentation!

If the answer is not E than the author of the question should be bitten! maybe even with legs...

No its not, exam is a fair game - thats what I hear.
THese qs you posted recently are not fair at all... (offence to KLN authors, not u my friend)
The thing is that KLN are written mostly by PhD's who do not have MD and who never took the real test.

its from kaplan SA and its their answers
yea i only picked those question which i thought were really strange..
