Question UWSA 242, Am I ready?

Guys I just took UWorld self assessment exam and got 242. Just 2 weeks ago I scored 207 on NBME 6 ( I was little over confident back then). But this exam was way harder than NBME 6.
My question is, does this score reflect if I am ready for the exam? my exam is in 3 weeks and I am scared

it overpredicts by 10pt, so you are at 232

my question is how did you jump from 207 to 232 in just 2 weeks!!
please tell me your secret lol

The general consensus is that UWSA overpredicts by 10 points.

If you got 242, then minus 10, that's 232!

Congrats!! That's a great score!!

You're already in that range! I guess you're ready.

Still, do other nbmes to be reinforce the score prediction -- especially the new forms.

When I took NBME 6 I was half sleeping and I didn't take it seriously. But, it did ruin my confidence. Even after this exam, I am lacking confidence coz I feel like i guessed on tons of questions. And I got 72% correct on this exam which isn't great. My target is to hit in 240's in the real exam or at least get above 235

how did you study in the two weeks between nbme 6 and UWSA?

was this your first time doing DIT?
is it fair to say your score shot up after doing DIT?

I have the same question with about the same scores on nbme and uwsa.

UWSA overpredicts. Especially the second form in range of 10-30 points.

They do say that the first form is fairly accurate though. And i felt it was pretty tough. But still, i got a higher score than on the nbme.

Wow! I just got up and stretched a bit... and the conversation is already this long. LOL!

@terminator: can you tell us your prep up to the point of NBME 6? Even just the bare outline. I just want to know at which part of my prep is DIT the best to do. Looks like your timing gave you optimal results.

@ dr -wiqed- I am not sure If I am in a good shape to give you any advice but whatever this is what I did till now.
I started studying on 1st Jan. First, I watched kaplan biochem, and behavioral science videos. Then I finished first aid with pathoma and started doing uworld. After finishing pathoma, I took NBME 6 and didn't do great. Then I started doing DIT's and finished the remaining uworld and took the uworldSA exam today.

@DocSikorski thanks for the info

YEP! I think so too. I am SOOO happy about that! I just need to figure out how everything should be organized in my sked.

Dr. Nick, if you're going to do DIT, are you going to do a pre- and post- nbme? Give us feedback on what you think about DIT and how it improved your scores after.

I'm going to do DIT after a month. I still have weak areas to work on.

Another thing, When you do DIT, don't just listen to the videos, also do the 'DIT workbook'

Default HI

I got 248 on USWA1 and after 2 weeks I did NBME 7 and 219(online). on UWSA1 I did 74% correct and NBME 80% correct. Now you decide, I think UWSA scoring system is different.

I would suggest you to do one more NBME online. GL!!!!

well, percentage is different, because number of questions is lower in UWSA versus NBME... So scoring is about the same.
But the gap of 219-248 sounds about right unfortunately...

Yep, the gap can be that high... Someone in one of the threads (I can't remember...) said the assessment forms (both UWSA and nbmes) can have as high as +/-20 points in discrepancy to the actual or predicted score.

Now, maybe if multiple online nbmes/UWSAs are done, the prediction rate can close in to +/- 10 points approximation...

well yeah, when we are talking about the possible +/- error we do actually mean "-" error. Because scoring 240 on UWSA will 99% never get you 260 on the real test.

In my case I have 226 - uwsa 1 and 234 UWSA 2.

So -20 it is about 206-214...

most people from other web-forums who report their scores say that UWSA2 overpredicted, but UWSA was about right or even slightly less than the real deal.

It is pretty tough! I got the first one to have 184 extra UW questions. I would recomend everyone to do it, not even for evaluation, but for practice, because you get UW-like explanations also.

Hey do the workbook while you're doing DIT. There's no point doing it before or afterwards coz then it destroys the purpose of DIT.

@DocSikorski:

LOL! You're right, it's sad that UWSAs are more of a "-" error and it can be as high as minus 20. You are currently the UWSA prediction expert! Having done UWSAs 1 and 2 with an accompanying nbme. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us!

I'm planning to do the nbmes first and the UWSAs closest to the exam (1 week before the exam). Since the UWSAs have explanations, I won't get too panicky if I don't know how they got the answer. Also, since they overestimate, they may be pretty good to boost my confidence when the exam is just 1 week away. Does that sound good? What do you think?

pal, If it was wisdom, I would be done with the test yesterday =)
Its a lack of confidence seeking for random confidence boosters and suppression of thought about exact prediction of NBME...

Good questions. Even I'm looking for answers to those.

Since DIT helped you a lot would you be kind enough to put a summary of your suggestion regarding DIT in this poll thread that I created?
Best option for last month: Kap+FA Revision Vs. DIT 1st time
I'm sure it would really help others in our situation.

Thanks a lot.
Much appreciate your help

Good luck

@suka and xpabhishek, It depends on your pace. Each day has almost 6 hrs of videos and if you are doing workbook with it, then it can take up to 8 hrs/day. I only did 4 hrs of videos everyday with 2 blocks of uworld questions. With this pace it took me approximately 3 weeks to finish it (well, I haven't finished it myself yet, I still have 2 more days to go). On the other hand, If you just want to do DIT alone (without doing any uworld questions) then, you can even finish it in 10 days. I hope it helps

hmm, it contains supplemental material which is not covered in FA and it's not much. Plus, it has mini quizzes which really helps you memorize stuff.

Do not underrate UWSA.I took both form 1 and 2 scored 252 and 242 on form 1 and form 2 respectively and eventually ended up with a score of 247 on my step 1.NBME 11 predicted 240.UWSA is definetly harder than than any of the NBMEs but it's scale is adjusted in a manner that you have to score a fewer number of correct answers to get a certain score as compared to NBME.

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it I am planning on taking NBME 11 or 12 in a week. Lets see how it goes...

yea, that is what I am talking about. I have the 2011 version. Old version doesn't matter esp 2009 which should be good becoz FA 2009 version is better than 2010 or 2011 in my opinion

Hi, Terminator! It's nice to bump into you again! How are you doing?

Did you find Sarah Connor already?

Let me give you a hint...

She's in the CS forum looking for a study partner.

LOL! I am just joking... Lav your username, by the way. I'm a terminator movie fan too.

Anyway, I'm thinking of using my old FA -- FA 2010 with DIT 2011.
I know it's probably ok, but do you think it will be easier and wiser for me to buy FA 2011?

LOLOL

Talking about studying with her, I would probably kill her as soon as I find her. Been looking for her from ages lol

If you have DIT 2011 videos, then use it with 2011 FA coz its really annoying when the guy is telling you to flip over to page 199 and you have no clue where that page would be in 2009 edition.

LOL, I wish I were him/her. His score is still much more than mine..
Well, jumping that much isn't an issue... I jumped from just 179 to 203 in 2 weeks.. For that, I revised my UWorld, did WebPath and got through FA 2 times...
