Shelf exams are conducted by medical schools (most US med schools and even some other international med schools) to assess students in a specific subject.

For example, students take pediatric shelf exam after finishing their pediatric rotation.

The SHELF exam is written by the NBME question writers just like the real USMLE and therefore it's a good way to prepare students for the real USMLE exam.

You cannot take SHELF exam as an individual it must go through your medical school.

Dr. Nick what you took was the Comprehensive aka the COMP. Shelf exams are typically per subject such as a Physiology shelf, a Pathology shelf, etc. Not a combination of all subjects.
