Look at the previous threads by those who have taken the step to see what you might want to do.
But I have been doing Kaplan for almost everything. Along with FA. And HY for Neuro. I have done MRS for micro And lippincot for Pharm back in med skewl.. I am still debating if I want to do Kaplan or Golgian for Path (which I will noe this week!)

@cybron:

From the feedbacks I've seen, Kaplan books and videos on embryology (+ FA) and genetics are enough. If you are weak in these subjects, it is better to do KLN and watch the videos than doing other (even highly rated) books. The videos will help you immensely and everything will be explained from scratch.

The neuroscience part has mixed reviews. Many recommend reading HY neuroscience instead. I tend to agree... Kaplan neuroscience maybe enough alone for most step-passers, but it seems to me that HY neuroscience is very well-written.

The best thing to do (for me) on these subjects is to do KLN + videos first. If you still feel the need to supplement after doing your first qbank, then, add HY books. It's easier to start with KLN + videos then supplement with HY than the other way around. Also, if you're weak in these subjects, you'll need all the help you can get. The videos in this case will be very beneficial. I'm speaking from my experience with Immuno -- a weak subject to me when I started my step prep.

Suka's right... Read previous step experiences and see their feedbacks on the books.

You might also want to throw in HY mol and cell bio into the mix -- since the exam recently became more molecular.

Don't worry too much about which books. The qbanks in my opinion will make up for whatever shortcomings the books may have.
