Default Want to encourage someone! Got my results yesterday.

Hi everyone,

Just thought I would drop a line about my step 1 experience.
I am a full time phd student and mom to a toddler who I am solely responsible for her care.
I started my preparation during the summer (full time studying) and I didn't have the couarge to take the exam before school resume 2nd week of August. I took an nbme then and got 213 and decided to postpone (mistake).
I was juggling everything but I got tired and burnt out by October/November. I had to study for school tests/assignments, I was serving as a teaching assistant (TA) in school for 2 classes for 20 hours, I was taking care of my daughter and studying for step 1 at the same time.

I took another nbme in November and got 220, but by this time I was already forgetting a lot of things and didn't even feel as ready as I was when I got 213. There were days I wouldn't even have time to touch FA or UW and I knew I was burnt out. I was going to push it forward till December but we all know when you give breaks in prep, it is like starting all over again, plus I had already expended all I had on the prep process, postponing, NBMEs and childcare.

So during thanksgiving break approx 1 week, I revised all I could and I gave the exam on Saturday (28th). I was severely crushed after the exam and felt as if I had failed. I only told 2 friends (deactivated my facebook) I had taken it and avoided telling anybody else which was helpful because I didn't feel under pressure.

And then my score came in yesterday- 216. I could not even open the email for about 30 minutes.
Lol! I know it is not a great score and I could have done better but I think I did the best I could have given my circumstances and most of all I am happy not to have to take it again. And oh my! I prayed a lot during the process. Everybody was tired of me; studying for step 1.

The purpose of my long story is that people's circumstances differ and that perseverance somehow pays. Just keep at it, remain focused and determined.
This is a very tough exam especially if you have peculiar circumstances (being a mom, student, working part-time, financial challenges etc).

But God sees your heart and your efforts.
I wish everyone all the best and I hope I have been able to encourage someone with my rant...
And continue to remember me in your prayers!

Thank you to everyone who has been of help to me on this forum again!
