Thumbs Up Dr_BMG Step 1 Experience 247/86

hello friends..first of all i want to thank the members of this forum and the moderators who has helped me alot in every step of my path..

I m an IMG doing internship in India..
started preparing for step 1 ==>April 2011
exam date ==>1st Feb
average study time==> 7-8 hr in last 2months but was nt able to read more than 5hrs in the beginning due to heavy internship postings...
material used from beginning to end
Kaplan lecture notes for all (except patho) ==> 1 detailed read in 2 1/2 months with videos than only for reference )
Goljan rapid review==> 2reads..from cover to cover..(plz guys dnt underestimate this book if ur aiming for high score)
First Aid 2011==>very good book...i don't remember exactly how many times i read it...minimum 3times( i found it enough for pharm, micro, immuno, embreyo...each line is high yield don't miss it)
Uworld qbank ==> I took it 3months before the exam..(top priority... highly recommend it ) (did some blocks of Kaplan qbank do only if y have enough time) did uworld random, untimed, unused..did 3blocks/day..made some notes which i found very useful, completed it in 4weeks...and then did a revision of incorrect and marked ques..
Google...for some things..lol:-)

predictions (in order in which i gave them)
uworld qbank--73%
nbme 11 --6weeks before --240
nbme 7---3weeks before--237 (both of them online)
uwsa 2--2weeks before--263
uwsa 1--1week before--260

any questions i will be happy to answer.....

How could you do 3 blocks of UW per day? OMG!
I'm must be too slow, because I cant do more than 46 qs/day, since I take notes of every question and just reading the long answers takes so much time!

Congrats for the score,

Congrats!! Great score!

Thanks for putting up your prep!!

I have a couple of questions:

I am also planning to take uwsa 1 and 2 two weeks before my exam. They're going to be the last assessment tests I'll take. Since you did that in your prep, at hindsight, do you think it was a good idea?

You also did nbme 7 three weeks before the exam. Did you have problems taking an nbme so close to the exam??

Also, what would you have added/changed in your prep?

Your feedback is very much appreciated!

i think i was well prepared for the exam bcos uwsa boosted up my confidence quite well but still i coudn't sleep till 2'oclock due to anxiety..so i know that it is easy to tell "just relax"" bt hard to do so..

exam centers was very near to my house..and the guys there wr vry cooperative..took some coffee,sandwhich,energybars(but didnt use them)
2blocks-10min break-2block- 20min break-2block -10min break-last block
questions wer longer thn uworld,but less complicated than NBMEs..i finished most of the blocks 10mins earlier,marked 7/8 que in each block..then revised all ques before submitting the block( i dnt kno if this ws the right stratergy but during uworld i found that i changed incorrect->correct more often than the reverse..so time was not an issue for me

i would nt recommend FA for ur only source of histo..i also hated histo but i just crammed it in the last month from kaplan(esp respi)..uworld is also very good for histo..

uwsa are very good predictors of the real scores but since we are all doin

the uworld qbank it gets lilbit more easy to answer the questns bt there r some new concepts in the UWSA it self so i found it useful ,,so

personally i think it overpredicts your score 15-20points...incontrast i found NBME littl tricky but very accurate max variation +/- 6-8points if taken near the exam
