USMLE Books Can use Snell and Robbin's for Prep!

hello
i wanted to ask about couple of books
i am currently in my country & couldn't find kaplan books not even used (looks like nobody studies kaplan for step 1) anyway i've got Robbins (Basic pathology - Kumar) the international 8th edition. i also have Snell anatomy & Lippincott's illusterated pharmacology 4th edition.
so if i studied from these books plus the Qbanks later ,, will it be enough for these subjects , giving that i am medical student 3rd year & i haven't studied from Robin's i only use my teachers notes to study pathology. I just need to know if these books will be enough to score high in USMLE or u have other better suggestion?
thanks in advance :sorry:

Default thnx but

thanx 4 replying but i can't find any person to photocopy from his\her resources. But my father will bring me Goljan pathology & FA
But that will be a month from now.
is there any one in this forum who has the pdf form of any of the step 1 books?
I don't want to waste a whole month waiting without doing anything as my father is in a business flight & won't be able to help me soon, so hope you guys got some pdf books.
Also, am surprised u didn't recommend lippincott's pharma as i read some people here studied from it

I'm a medical student myself, and I fell Robbins is way too detailed for step 1 (I can't even go thru it for class tests). From what I've been told, you need to have a solid base of pathology which you can get from Robbins but to prepare for step 1, you need Goljan rapid review. Since you have probably not yet done pathology in med school, you won't be able to understand Goljan (trust me, I tried)

Snell's is also way too huge and complicated to do for step 1.

Personally, I like Lippincott's Pharmacology as it allowed me to get a good understanding of the subject. But again, it's too detailed and too long. Kaplan pharma is more than enough, and that along with FA is just fine.

A suggestion: buy the Kaplan books from Amazon or something?? That way, you can at least start with prep from the right books

Default thnx alot

thanks guys u really helped
but we are actually doing path , micro & already did pharma in our school. But i have the path basis from my teachers' notes not robbins & already studied pharma from lippincott's , micro from illusterated review of microbiology . We're doing the systemic parts of path & micro currently that's why i wanted to start studying them first to just hit 2 birds by one stone. So i need to try dig for Goljan in my country & kaplan micro but what about pharma: kaplan pharma or levinson or lippincott's?

I would advise you to study Pharma from Kaplan. You'll be able to finish it quickly while still being able to understand stuff. Watch the vidoes too if you have time, but on high speed because Lionel Raymon speaks too slowly!!!!

Default thnx alot

thnx very much fat1iscool
U were so helpful, i'll try my best to do whatever it takes to find these books tomorrow (i'd have done it now if it wasn't night in my country) hehehehehe
I am so excited to get started & you guys made me feel that it is doable more than ever.
I'll start reading from goljan & if felt the need for further understanding i'll referre to robbin's in path. Will use kaplan's pharma.
So excited to get step 1 done. Thanks guys

well am also in a medical school in india..a, 4th year student(internship still remaining)...in our country kaplan is also not in vogue..but u can easily order KLN from amazon...they sell legal copies in amazon..plus robbins, katzung, lippincot etc are not high yield..for the steps bcoz they will ask u more clinical oriented stuff..robbins is core pathology etc etc..so it will helluva difficult on..i suggest u better get ur hands on KLN..and if u r an img..i really doubt how much class notes will help in the usmle..bcoz in us they teach authentic clinics and atleast in our country most classnotes are based on vague old info thats rarely used and one has to mug it up..if thats too in ur case i wud just say go for KLN through amazonGL

hello doc, thanks for the advice & i finally got the method of step 1 studying concept. As for our lecture notes i assure u that they are up-to-date, our teachers here use the newest editions e.g. of robbins in path. & they are actually trying to get to study from these big books rather than studying their high yield lecture notes (but like all students me & my classmates always study from their lecture notes)
Thanks alot for the advice , i have a question >> in your med school 4th year is the semi-final year? if so why aren't u preparing for step 2 first, they say if u r semi or finalist it is better to prepare for part 2??

time to sleep , liver tumours you win , i give up

the funniest part is that i am not yet a docso lets call each other buddiesyeah 4th year is definitely semifinal year in our country but it started from this february only..so i guess i am just in the wee hours of semifinal year..i started out for step 1 in my 3rd year only...i was fresh from pathology, pharma, micro then..plus also i had limited clinical exposure at that time..so step 1 was the only option left..my exam date is april 2nd..so just 16 more days to go..and please dont take my words as adviseadvise is too great a thing..its just a suggestion from a friend..i havent cleared step 1 yet so no qs of advise comesu r tag line is awesome
