Hey guys,
I need serious advice. I have done Kaplan Lecture Notes physiology twice and I thought I had a pretty good understanding .. until I started with the UW!! I did terrible in the physio and pathaphysio questions .. OMG ... and I'm like totally lost when I read their explanations .. esp cardio and resp!! I'm pretty okay with endo and git (i guess they are easier and everyone is ok, LOL) Anyway I just wanted to know .. will doing BRS physio help? because a couple people had advised me to do so a little while ago but I didn't want to start anything new ... but now i am willing to if it will help.. Please advise people |

Have you read FA before doing UW?
I was done with kaplan and Costanzo, than read FA physio in each chapter of organ systems. it really helped. How many percent have you got? I've done only physiology part of UW ( not pathophys) - these 3 materials have to be enough to score 65-70% |

Did you analyze why you are getting UW questions wrong? Is it because lack of knowledge (a topic not covered by Kaplan) or is it because the question is tricky and you missed the trick!
If the questions you are missing are covered by Kaplan but you just seem you forgot them, then I advise you go and read Kaplan again together with FA, I don't advise to pile up more books, just consolidate what you have done. |

I'm going to tell you the "truth that will set you free".... LOL!
Nope, it won't. BRS physio is a "summary" book. It's very well-written, but it's a lot less extensive than kaplan and, thus, explains less. That's my humble opinion. I've read both books, BRS physio for my local boards and KLN + videos for the usmle.Have you watched the 2010 kaplan physio videos? I feel that they explain the concepts well there. If you haven't, I suggest you do the videos first before you shift into another book. Uworld physio can be overwhelming at first. Try it again... On your weak subjects like physio cardio, watch the videos first (or again), then answer the uworld physio cardio. Do this per topic. Sometimes we do know the concepts, but we tend to forget the details over time. We just need a refresher course. Watch the videos at 1.5x -- just to give it a quick run-through. This strategy worked for me. As for uworld PATHOphysio, I have this feeling that Internal Medicine knowledge actually helps here. In step 1, the closest is pathology mechanisms. The physio here is very basic... If you have problems here, go back to patho. There are times that we just need to get used to the uworld question approach in these subjects. Try to differentiate where you're having difficulty. Is it really understanding the concepts? Maybe you just need a little review? Or maybe you just need to get used to answering usmle-type physio questions? Good luck!!

I thinks that reading Costanzo isn't a good idea know. Try to watch kaplan again and get the concepts they are trying to explain there. Dr.Kudrath tells more on cardiac physiology relevant for the step 1 than Constanzo's Cardiovascular Chapter. + FA of course. Wish you luck ! |

Download BRS pdf -> just read Cardiac physio chapter -> do the test at the end of chapter -> this will take 3-4 hours if you think that really helped do other chapters too. e.g. Respiratory and so on. |

but BRS Physio is short, easy to read and straight to the point...If you want to grab the very basic things about BRS, it's all you need...in case you find Kaplan Physio difficult and lengthy... Yepp, Physio is full of concepts and harder than a lot of subjects... Those advice above are very useful, you will be fine soon, good luck! |

BRS is a very good book, but I don't think it's the answer to your dilemma. However, Beka-CTS is right... Try it for a chapter and see for yourself. Good luck!!
