Default My Experience

I was in the process of editing my last post to add this, but I guess the allotted period during which that is allowed expired. Ahh well, new post.

I've been out of med school for over 2 years now for various reasons, so getting back into the studying mood was quite difficult.

I started Studying on December 10th 2011 and ended on Feb 27th 2012. About 7 hours of serious study per day.

I did USMLE World questions pertaining to the subject matter I read the day before. My average score was 72% on my first pass, which ended 3 weeks prior to the exam. I copied the answers to the incorrect questions into my First Aid book (which I unbound as it's much easier to write on loose leaf paper than on a bound book) alongside my other notes (see the taus method). I also did the questions out of any of the textbooks I owned which contained them.

I re-did the USMLE World Marked questions starting from 3 weeks prior to the exam and my average was around 92% then, I had marked around 800 and finished them all in a week since I only had to read the incorrect ones and really write nothing at this point.

My NBME 7 Score 10 days out was 245. Unfortunately I was forced to take it before my final review and finishing the marked questions due to time constraints, I only took one NBME as I didn't have time for the others, if I'd done badly I would have rescheduled my test.

After the NBME, I focused on the subject areas that the score report indicated I was really weak in (Respiratory and Behavioral were the 2 worst), and spent the last 9 days reviewing my USMLE First Aid annotated version while really focusing on weak areas but making sure to give the rest of it a good skim too.

At some point in the near future I'm probably going to scan and upload my USMLE First Aid notes as a thank you, I've been a lurker on many USMLE forums for the past couple of months and have garnered a wealth of useful information and many amazing study techniques (I'd really recommend the taus method). The fact that this thread existed combined with the fact that I just received my score prompted me to make an account

Good luck to the rest of you!

Post The Taus Method.

Here it is:
http://www.usmle-forums.com/usmle-st...-schedule.html

It's pretty darn good imho, its not brain surgery and I'm sure many people probably study like this already, but for me at least, having a clear outline was very useful (I have terrible study habits).

I should note that I didn't use the Taus method in its pure form, but modified it to suit my needs somewhat, the framework is the same though.

Good Luck!
