Yep, you can have any program open. However, you can't do copy and paste, copy and grab, screenshots or printscreens.

dont cheat yourself man
if youre doing UW it should just be you and UW.
dont turn this into a 3some by bringing FA in.

dude chill, it's just that kaplan qbank has the referance page for FA after each Q,
but i read that uworld doesnt provide that... i have a searchable pdf version which will help a lot and relive me from flipping through first aid! time is gold my friend,

if every question took just one minute to find it [at least]... each block i'd be saving 45 minutes!

good luck, doc

It is possible to copy paste things outside UW with a mac...I use it in PDF, safari, firefox... etc... but not to copy stuff from UW. Sometimes I need to copy something from here to there. I use UW with PDF the same way you want to... it really will help you with the time.

Other thing: how much time does it takes you (average) to review an UW 46 Q block + write notes in FA???

im currently doing kaplan qbank, in subject wise+ untimed tutor mode.. u know, as a third or second read for some topics,, and taking notes from questions and writing algorithms or differential diagnosis.. it takes about 5-6 hours of pure studying [i.e not from 12 pm - 6 pm.... coz in this case i would take breaks,

on average, since this is the first qbank im doing, my max was 2 blocks perday, with explanations
dunno if its good or bad, or how good\bad,, it depends i guess between ppl and the time u have

best wishes

I'm planing to do UW for the second time + write notes. I'm just wondering whether I will have the time or not. I have 30 days left in my subscription.

Sorry, I misunderstand: Do you mean 5-6 hrs per block + writing notes, or 5-6 hrs 2 block + writing notes?

5-6 hours perblock,
but in the second time ur doing it, or when ur exam is near, everybody says that u'll be doing much faster,

there is a post for "steptaker" where he said that u can manage 150-450 questoins perday by ur second time through questions,

I'm a mac user too, but I can't use copy and paste even in programs outside uw. I don't know why... I have to close uworld if I want to copy even just a link from safari.

Is this your first time to take notes from uworld? It depends on your level of prep.

Here are examples where it might take you 1 block (or less) per day when you're taking down notes:

- In a subject where your last review of the material was a long time ago (like 2 - 3 mos ago).

- In a subject where there's just too much important info in uworld that is not found in the primary material (FA, Kaplan or Goljan). A perfect example is pathology.

- In a subject that is just plain hard. You need to take extensive notes so you can get back on it later. An example is Pathophysiology, a hard subject, with long explanations, and lots of info not found in the usual primary material.

- In a subject that you are weak in.

On the bright side:

If you have just reviewed the material adequately and you have a strong foundation already, you can do it 2 blocks per day while taking notes. 2 blocks is more realistic, but maybe you can do 3 or more per day.

If your exam is near and you feel that you might not be able to get back and revise extensive notes, you can streamline them. A friend of mine was able to finish uworld first pass in 5 weeks with minimal notes. However, he took the exam 2 weeks after uworld. He scored in the 240's.

By the way, that's from my own experience, I'm doing uworld subject-wise, first qbank...

I think a safe number is (around 60 mcqs) or 1.5 blocks/day. But if you've done kaplan qbank and made extensive notes from it before uworld, it will be an easy 2 blocks/day of uworld + notes (feedback from another friend).

Yeah.. That is as far as I can go too: "1.5 blocks a day". I didn't wrote notes during the first 1200 Q But for the rest of the Q, I started writing notes (most of the Q were Pathology Q, pharmacology Q, and physiopathology Q) I've messed up with my UW in a way that I cannot even describe

Makes me feel good to know that its okay to do 1.5 blocks a day.

Tomorrow I'm finishing reviewing UW first time. I have 43 days left for UW (starting tomorrow). I think that I will use 7-9 days for reviewing FA one more time and then I'll do NBME 12. Then I'll start with UW round 2, and for doing that I think that I will have roughly 30 days to finish all the Q. (No sure if I will make it)

Changing topic, with the Mac thing... just select but don't press copy... just select what you want to copy/use, hold clink, and drag the info to wherever you want to (This works 100% times outside UW)... it will pass whatever you want to pass... picks, paragraphs... etc. Tell me if it works for you

OMG! It does work!!! I'm so happy... I'm crying with tears of joy.

Thank you very much, Dr Mexito! You're the best!

Don't worry about you "messing-up" half of your uworld... Check mbbs2010's prep. It's similar to yours. She finished 50% of uworld in her prep, stopped, changed strategies (I think), and finished the other half. We usually adjust to improve our strategy along the way.
