Question Orange Tonsils!

A 33-year-old woman is evaluated because she believes she has tonsillitis. She also reports tingling and burning sensations in both hands. Physical examination of the tonsils reveals extensive hyperplasia of Waldeyer’s ring, with a peculiar orange tinge to the tonsils. When taking a culture, the skin scrapes off easily. Physical examination also shows a palpable mass in the left superior abdominal quadrant. Throat culture is negative for beta-hemolytic streptococci. Laboratory studies show low to normal total plasma cholesterol level, normal to increased triglycerides, and complete absence of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. The urine is negative for conjugated bilirubin, and fecal analysis reveals the presence of stercobilin.
Which of the following is the most likely cause of these findings?

A. Obstructive jaundice
B. Hemolytic anemia
C. Familial hypercholesterolemia
D. Blocked enterohepatic circulation
E. Disorder of cholesterol transport
