Thumbs Up going in to battle on monday....

hey guys,

as i give my exam this monday I descided to write down how i did it (hope to do it – to be more prescise). I spent around 6 months for prep because I had to keep on working during prep (from somewhere the money has to come from ) I teach anatomy and embryology at university.
I started preparing in August last year while I worked at the Charite in Berlin. I totally underestimated that book -> I was always like: yeah…I know…yeah…yeah…and then-> wtf did I just read??? I started Kaplan vids and qbank mid December and finished both on 20. January (qbank 72% - no idea how that happened, I felt like **** while doing it). Mid January I started uworld – which drove me crazy – finished that on the 12. February (74%)

My first NBME was on 10.2. : it was form 6, 460/214
Then 11 on 2/3/12 490/219

Then I finished uworld the second time (80%)

Two weeks ago my father was at hospital with suspected lung embolism and all my work went straight to hell. I got some weird infection: got nearly 40° fever, some weird ECG changes and it was not sure if they could get me out of the hospital till my exam. But I got the OK from the doctors so I decided to give it a try.

I don’t really care anymore about the score or anything. Not only because of my father but also because: I GOT AN OFFER FROM OXFORD UNIVERSITY!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
So it would be great if STEP 1 works out but it’s no problem if not…

Feel free to ask and wish me luck;-) I’ll post my exam-exp on Thursday I think.

Hugs,
MedPharm

MedPharm created it a month back. It was during a thread, "Last 4 weeks". It was supposedly a support group for those who are taking the exam on the last week of March. It's only me, MedPharm, Avash, and Hitman who turned out to be members there. LOL!

That FB group was why Avash brought up the idea again during the thread, "Why are you doing usmle?". So that we can still keep in touch after step 1. Why don't you start one? (I still have to learn how start a group...) We'll invite everyone -- esp those who were in "Why are you doing usmle?" thread!

Fun fact: Because of FB, now I've seen Avash's baby pictures. He was tagged by a relative...

at the moment dont think about the exam.

am sure you must have done well.. our prayers are with you.

if you dont mind could you please elabortate about the exam??

1- DID YOU FIND UW help you answer the questions with ease? If you did so, can you please give us an example on how did it help you answer the Q.
I mean where u able to answer the Question because u learnt the concept from uw????

2-how many times did you go thru uw. did you write notes for every Q u did in uw?am asking this because i feel like i have been writting alot of notes from 1 Q itself and i feel its time consuming.

please do share your views on the above Q

thanks!

Yeah, so what was that question?

Without violating any rule can you please tell us the concept it tested?

Given that we all follow more or less the same texts and strategy, I doubt if any of us could have answered it either. So don't beat yourself up over it
Now it's time to celebrate.

Good luck with step 2

no, seriously guys..i ****ed it up...completely...
i had so many qs about this med causes deficiency in blahblahblah...i drove me crazy (also my triple-q was one of them)

i went 2 times through uworld, didn't take many notes....what really annoys me now...but i don't know if it would have helped i had the feeling the exam was much easier but i'm just stupid and got too involved in details

'good luck with step 2' was exactly what the test-center-lady said today...weird...

Congrats!! I am sure you did well... Don't wry.
So by looking at ur example.. it was pharm that tricked you?
Can you tell us which areas you harder/easier/tricker...
Which NBME was it more closer to?

I think the lady said "good luck with step 2" because she already considered that you will do good on Step 1 and come back to write ur Step 2 soon.

It's alright man.. there are very few people who say the exam was str8.. most people think they completely blew it.. let's just pray and see how things turn out in a few weeks.. other that that, u should finally relax a little bit now because u deserve it!!! just keep urself busy for the next 3 weeks man

how did u find the biochemistry, embryo, and immuno on ur exam? was there anything that caught u off guard?

that's what my mum said too....i just have to get my mind off that thing...but i'm afraid that every second there could be this 'oh my god...why didn't i see it back then'-feeling

biochem was always my weakest subject but i was really surprised at the exam it is basic FA
embryo was just the same...i thought it was mainly FA maybe one or two difficult qs
immuno was difficult...lots of 'could be X or Y'
