Question PLAB or USMLE

Hi There,
I am currently living in UK as a student. I came here to do MSc Public Health course. I need your help. I am soo confused and soo worried about myself. I do not know what to do. please help me what shall I do now and what is the best thing to do in my situation, I am so desperate please need your advice. any reply kindly appreciated. I will try to explain my situation.
I am a IMG graduated in 2009. I have lot of family problems, did not have anybody to support me. Now I am married and my Husband is the only one I have left. I thought to do plab when I came here, during the studies. But I couldn`t score ielts 7. only had 6.0 for ielts. also couldn`t afford the course fees for the uni etc and finally we both managed to find money by doing some jobs here there.I got little baby girl during this time also. we are managed to cover everything with the hard work of 2 of us.now I am finished my course, but I couldn`t prepapre for any exam during this time. I need to do Plab or Usmle or anything but I dont know I am confused. If I am doing plab I need to get ielts. what shall I do now? is it better to do plab or try for usmle instead. I do not know. my current student visa finishes and I am hoping to get post study work visa which is for 2 years. so only left these 2 years to do whatever I have to do. can you please tell me what should I do? please try to understand my situation I need your help,, Please!!!!!

May God help you all!!!!!!

as far as the comparison between the two tests is concerned, PLAB is not even 20% as hard as the USMLE. and after USMLE you don't know if you will get into residency when and u definitely need a financial backup during that time. Now i don't think they are giving jobs in the UK to the non-EU graduates but u must know it better.USMLE is a very doable test but PLAB is much moe easy.Have you explored the Aussie option???Their test is also just one clinical step and i think you can work there after taking PLAB too.Same for the NZ.
good luck

Thnx a lot for ur time and words.I really appreciate that.

That`s what I thought. As I feel if I am preparing for usmle it will take long time to do steps. but if I prepare for ielts and if pass plab atleast I can settle here. and it will take less time for preparation when compare to usmle. even if I cannot get a job straight away I can apply for some locum jobs and get visa to stay. u r right kdm0101, I also found that there is a way can go to Aus who passed plab.

Finally I decided to do this. I am thinking to do some job now (anything) to find some money and prepare for ielts and plab. I think I took right option. Please do reply if I am wrong?

As I see the some jobs here they asking the GMC registration and licence to practice here. If I can pass this I think I can get something. I hope I can do this. After reading your post I feel I am gonna do right thing.

May God Bless you!!!!

the USMLE is a costly process, both in terms of time(2-3years) & money(around 3.5k US$ in fees alone). & in the end its a huge gamble.
In the end, its your choice. People with worse circumstances than yours have successfully gone through this process & have realized their dreams. If you want to get a residency in the US, i see no reason why u cant. But its upto you to decide if its worth it.
