Smile Bharadw Step1 Journey

Ok my time to give back to the forum.

Score - 239 / 85, Exam date March 14

8 Months (4 months relaxed mode and 4 months rigorous) preparation.

Completed Kaplan with Videos and then UWorld - 25 days 71% score ..

Last 6 weeks - First Aid and revised around 500 marked UWorld questions.

Solved NBME 5,6,7,11,12,13 and offline NBME 4. Also solved UW exam1 and 2 which are OK.

Actual exam is more like NBME.

I believe NBME helps you a lot in understanding where you stand also. I pretty much solved all NBME in last 3 weeks. My score ranged from 219 to 257.

I am little disappointed cause my last NBME scores 2 days before exam were -

form13 - 257
form 12 - 247

also

form 7 - 231 (10 days before the exam)

But I guess thats ok. I have made peace with my score and raring to go for Step 2 CS in few weeks.

It was an interesting journey. full of ups and downs but I think step1 teaches you to be strong. I have a long road ahead for Match 2013 like all of you out there.

Not sure what else I can add.. I am little blank at this moment as the feeling is yet to sink in that Step1 is history now but I will be happy to answer any questions.

Good luck

congrats!
were there alot of graphs and chart that you had think hard about to solve?
or are they straight forward? do they use the same graphs and chart like those ones in kaplan and FA2012?
or do they make up really annoying random graphs?

Yes big time .. I think with each nbme (extended feedback) you know where you still lacking , where you need more work etc

Form13 is interesting .. I thought it was fair .. I got my highest 257 in it so I might be biased but I would say all new forms 11,12 and 13 are close to exam ..

To be very frank it's very easy to imagine sitting back home etc but let me tell you during actual exam you don't even get a time to think if it's similar or more tough .. All you care is 46 Qs at a time and managing your breaks .. I decided many things about how I'm going to take my breaks but during actual exam I just could not think about it .. I ended up having 20 mins at the end of exam .. I keep wondering if I would have taken much needed break between block 5 and 6 .. It gets so stressful that you just want to keep going and get done with it ..

I am not trying to scare anyone .. Again it's a very doable exam and yea practice helps .. Try to build endurance to solve 7 blocks though ..

yes it definitely helps .. I had done Kaplan before so I knew theory but UWorld helps you put it in perspective of MCQs and how Qs are framed ..

I am sure you know this - UWorld questions are way diff than actual exam .. still I think they are helpful because of details explanations ..

one caution - make sure you mark the UW questions that you may want to revisit. Once you go through all 2000 MCQs its tough to revise questions. As it selects random 46 questions from selected subject. I wish I had realized it earlier.

Again NBME Qs are similar to actual exam so nothing like it.

thanks alot buddy.

when i do uworld, the extra details that they give, i feel like, i have never come across just information anywhere in KLN or videos or First aid.

i belive those are then extra info. that we need to keep in mind and also learnt the mechanisms and the concepts delivered from uw

am i correct?

I just wanted to add one more disclaimer .. I never participated or bothered to discuss any questions or block from NBME or UWORLD or Kaplan QBank

I used the forum just to see how rest of the ppl are preparing and general topics ..

Since many ppl discuss or share answers on forums, it affects in real reflection of your score. Even one question that you knew beforehand could change it.

UWorld Exam or NBME provides answer .. so whatever Qs I would get wrong, I would try to find answer or just live with it .. I know at times its tough to live with it but that was my way .. sorry

UW exams are not that great though .. Exam2 overpredicts for sure ..

good luck

I solved Kaplan Qs just for practice .. Whenever I found time I would just solve a block of 46 Qs to keep me busy

Few days before exam I. Just wanted to be in touch of material and get used to solve Qs do that's when I used it most .,
