Unhappy NBME 13 Scored 490(219) after hard studying

I need ur advice.
I just scored 490 (219) in NBME 13 ...I am so depressed these r the facts and ur opinion is much appreciated.
1. I studied so hard for the past 5.5 months
2. Finished Kaplan some subjects twice and some once (I don't remember a word from Kaplan though)
3. I repeated uworld twice
4. Did FA a gazillion times did NBME 12 two months ago and scored 380, NBME 7 one and half months ago and scored 360. UWSA2 last week and scored 490.
Now my exam is scheduled on the 19th of this month (and I already rescheduled 4 times now), my eligibility period ends May 31st
I still have to take the my ck to apply for 2013. I was aiming for a result that is 240 or higher ..
(I haven't seen my husband in 5.5 months, missed most of the last 5.5 months of my 7 months old boy) Should I just take the exam and end my misery?
Am afraid I won't have much time for step 2 ck I have to be done from it by Aug 11th max.. What should I do ,, I am mentally emotionally physically exhausted

What were your weak areas?

Remember, one relatively low score doesn't mean the world... it could have just been a fluke. And every NBME is different... because it's only 200 questions, that particular one might have been focusing more on your weaknesses.

My lowest performance was neuro. Then I have behavioral, anatomy, histology and cell biology borderline , i know what u mean but every1 says its very predictive I will start with theses although i know I did them countless times so far but I dunno should I postpone my test is 11 days enough to reach 600 or am I daydreaming

Well, behavioral is easy to review quickly, and neuro can be covered in a couple of days if you just read HY neuroanatomy and use Goljan or Pathoma for pathology.

Anatomy and histology tend to be fairly low-yield for the test, so if I were in your place, I'd probably ignore those.

NBMEs can be predictive if you do several of them, but one test doesn't always mean a lot if it's not consistent with what you were expecting. What was your UWorld percentage like?

Also, you could try using the DIT course. It's meant to be done over 15 days (and they say that, on average, they raise your score by 15%), but you might be able to condense it down.

As far as whether you should postpone it, that depends on your own personal situation. If postponement works with your schedule, then maybe that would be best for you. But if postponement will only add more stress, then I can't imagine that it would help... if you've been studying for 5.5 months, I think the stress of postponement could have enough of a detrimental effect to offset the benefit of another 2 weeks of studying.

1st round 60s but now ranging from 85-90 per block (jst because I know all the questions). I think ill ignore anatomy and histo and go for what u suggested in neuro anat and behavioral.
I did my job whatever meant to happen is gona happen its nothing I can control iam very convinced now
Thx

Another option is to use the First Aid Express videos as rapid review. But I don't know if it'll add much if you've already been through FA several times.

If you were scoring in the 60s on UWorld, then I'm sure you'll probably get an above-average score on the real thing. I'll bet that NBME was a fluke. You might benefit from taking another one, just for confidence purposes.

I would suggest you to only read FA now and your own notes.then 2 days before the test if you want you can take another NBME.

I haven't taken step 1 yet ( taking it on August) but based on other NBME i've taken and other student feedback neuro is really a high yiled topic that you cannot afford to miss . As Shan said HY neuro can be done in a couple of days .
Also don't trust too much on USMLE world % as NBME is a better predictor

Don't take the exam with the attitude of "ending your misery " because once you take it that score will last for 7 years .
A 219 isnt a bad score and I'm sure if you go thorugh first Aid or DIT
you can improve .

Good luck !

I think majority of use who took the exam (at least for me) you do get exhausted towards the end since you know you are hitting the finish line. I would recommend for the next 1.5 weeks hit your weak points and review FA again for the last time. If you are seriously feeling not ready then do not take it. You will only hurt you score in the end. If you move the test date then take one day off each weak to relax (no thinking of the steps). I see that you are improving each time you take a test, so you are doing something right in your prep. Do not rush to take it because it may hurt your score. If you feel as though taking time off will make it drag on (I had this feeling 2 weeks before my exam that no matter I need to get this over with since I was at my breaking point) then take the exam, since anymore time delaying will hurt you (you will forget, you will get lazy, you will not care anymore, and you may feel regret with the "what if"). I wish there was a better answer. But I wish you best of luck (all of us who took the exam somewhat know how you feel so you are not alone).

Just a side note, why do you need to take CK by a certain date? If you take CK 2013 (doing the same), you have plenty of time. Most people study for the CK in 5 weeks tops. Thou I plan to spend more time than that since I am slow learner.

I am reading fa again now trying to finish it in 5 days ihope:sorry: the reason I want to take another nbme soon is because it will basically determine if I should go though with my exam on my selected date or not and it's definitely better to know that before its only a week b4 the test so they don't charge me even more cuz seriously it feels like my bank account was raped by nbme/usmle. I hope everything works according to my new plan thx for ur advice I really appreciate it

That's true u have a point but i can't help how I feel honestly this step is a torture in every meaning of the word .. Anyhow finishing fa again now is my first priority then if I still didn't improve my neuro anat I'll read hy neuro anat ..although I have a photographic memory and the worst thing I can do to myself is study from a million source (everything gets mixed up in my brain) but am keeping it as a last resort anyways thx

The issue behind ck is I gotta take it and have the results and be ecfmg certified before sept 1st (application day) And i am seriously slower than a snail when it comes to studying and since I have other responsibilities (my kid) I was worried I was giving step 1 too much time while it's a lost case (since I was never that good at basics) on the expense of my ck (which I can easilly hopefully score high cuz clinical is really my thing ) but anyways I'll just keep going and hopefully I'll try to make it to the 240 before the 19th
