Is 240 the new 230 as the number of people that get higher scores are increasing? Thank you

Hey Matchink,

it very difficult to say what the cutoff values are to pass most filters imposed by the program directors, however, we shouldn't resort to the feeling that everyone is getting a higher score than in the past. Let's look at the latest available data:

Charting outcomes for IMGs

Here we can see that the average Step 1 score for matched non-US IMG was 227.

While this report is from 2013, there is barely any change if we look at the NRMP charting outcomes for 2014. This is why I can't really imagine a much higher average in merely 2 years.

What a "solid", or "great" score is depends on the program, if they use score filters, etc. Only program directors can really tell you if anything has changed or not.
