Smile USMLE Mom recalling prior studies

Hi Ladies,
I'm a mom of a two years and a 10 month old baby, everyday for me is a struggle, it's so hard with the household, the cooking, and plus step 1, even now I'm writing and my girl is all over she wants to press the key boards with me looool ahhh any one told us before that being a mom is so hard! sure they did but when you have them is something else.
Any how I'm looking for some guidance, I'm studying first aid these day's, did kalpan notes long time ago,TWICE! and let me tell you I don't remember a thing, I'm in this stage to recall what I've studies and I find first aid +doing Q, is more useful for me, plz let me know how u do it.

Welcome to USMLE Forums,

You are not alone, we had several mothers preparing for the USMLE, see USMLE-Moms tag link at the bottom of thread to connect to them, and God bless you.

I would suggest that you reread Kaplan Lecture Notes to rebuild your foundation, if you read FA alone might get you confused. If you find yourself remembering everything with FA alone then it's fine but I don't think that will work.

Start doing questions early in your prep so that you see if you are grasping the concepts or you need more work.

Good luck

Hi!

I'm in my revision/recall phase too. I read KLN notes (w/o videos) + FA once and just finished uworld.

For my revision phase, one thing I noticed is that I find it overwhelming to go back to kaplan notes for the 2nd reading. It's also very boring too. So I changed tactics. I watched kaplan videos that are highly recommended and that also corresponds to my weak subjects.

Amazingly, my 3 - 4 days of solid Kaplan videos (in for example, biochem) paid off! The general consensus is that videos are time-consuming, but in my case, I feel that they were worth every minute. My 3 - 4 days of kaplan videos are worth 1 week reading and memorizing the subject. Only this time I understood and retained more.

Now, I'm "arranging" my video notes and uworld notes for my last complete pass of all subjects. This time I'll probably do 75:25 (questions: reading material ratio). I'll mix and match reading notes, answering questions, and listening to Goljan audios so I won't get bored...

Good luck!! Keep us posted!

Hi I also find kaplan to be time consuming but if you have already seen them and want to do some a second time there are some programs that allow you to modify the playback speed (x1,3 : x1,5) i have found this very useful especially when it is a boring lecture or i feel the guy is not going fast enough for a part that i already understand

not when they are older than one year she can but will not turn her quite

dr. ayano, my study partner is exactly in the same situation .. the first kaplan reading took her a while but now that she found me I mean she got a study partner hehe" me too" ! she turned to be more serious about it and she is applying to take the test in the coming few monthes.. nothing is impossible if you have the willing .. so first try to find a study partner

second, if you have someone to take care of your baby .. maybe put her with and you go out and study OUT the house ! you as a wife and a mother you'll always find somework to do .. believe me.. to escape from studying you will do anything I know that from mysalf ! hehe if you dont have someone to babysit her .. find a daycare .. its about 9 hours you can use for yourself !! and again.. this's what my study partner does

third, I so respect you mommy doctors .. you are doing a very good job ! and always remember you can do it ! you already passed the hard part of it
good luck

A lady (Dr. Laura, I think?) posted some youtube links of videos that she had uploaded. They were about her MLE experience while raising a baby. It might help if you looked her up, and asked her for advice .
