Default Step 1 help..

Good evening friends..
I am an IMG.. Also an emergency physician.. I m moving to North America two months from now.. I intend to give step 1.. I have literally no idea or experience about usmle exams
(I only know about the steps n division of syllabus).. I just need some quick help on how to go about it..
Beginning with, where do I register myself for usmle step 1?
What all documents do I need to bring from my medical school to appear for usmle?
Can anyone please tell me the entire process in brief.. I would be grateful...

Thank you all..

first of all you need to register for ecfmg , it`s about 60 $, then you should register for step 1 exam Its about 970$ or less , i dont remember exactly( I dont know when you intend to take it but be aware 6-9 month preparation are required for IMG doctors) . Then your school will send to ecfmg
2 copies of your medical diploma
2 copies of your medical transcripts . (and translation in english for diploma and transcript.
2 form 345 ( you will fill and sign them)
1 form 186 , you and your school will sign them. All of these will be in an envelope sent directly form you school to ecfmg otherwise they wont accept it.
After ecfmg receives the documents , it will send you medical diploma back to your school for them to verify it and require another list of transcript. I believe some school have a post fee you should pay. That`s all
Good luck!

So does that mean, I have to register for ecfmg & step1 together?
Since I am gonna leave for North America in two months I wanna collect all the required documents from my med school.. I wanna book a slot for step 1 after moving to North America.. Is that possible??
I just checked the ecfmg website.. It's showing an option for requesting ecfmg ID number for first timers.. Should I proceed with that for doing my registration??

Dr. Shaz, the best way to start prepping is to review the First Aid book. It's a high yield resource that covers most (not all) of the topics tested on the USMLE. I don't know how long you have been out of medical school, but what I would probably do is being by watching the Kaplan videos and read along the lecture note books and take notes.

yes you could this too , apply for step one after you come in usa but then you have to send all your papers to your school and the school will send them to ecfmg ,that`s what I did and it has taken me lot of time. So you need to pay the post and everything for the papers to go to your school and then to be sent back to ecfmg,
sorry for the late response

You should start with the kaplan videos , for us that are IMG we cant just go and through ourselfs to first aid , you need to form the concepts first , than leave first aid just for reviewing , there are some kaplan videos at pirate bay , go there and download them

Honestly, I wouldn't know. From hawking the forums, I have noticed that there is a correlation between NBME-17 and step scores, so I would probably save that until the end. Have you purchased a UWORLD subscription?
