Cameroon Cameroon IMG facing prep difficulties

I am an img, precisely in Cameroon, i have been preparing for the usmle for about a year but the difficulties have been too many, its been difficult to get the latest books, internet connection is slow, and since am working i cant really focus on reading. worse i have to travel to Ghana or South Africa to write the exams. i am thinking all this even if i write i may not get my optimum score, what should i do.
thanks for your advice
especially from img's from Africa.
thanks

Hey bud.
Step 1 is a long and not a pleasant journey for the person who is working.
The only advice I can give you that is worth reading - don't travel to Ghana until your NBME score shows a nice result...

Can you try finding study partners in your city and share materials with them? It might be worthwhile joining a community of medical students or recent grads studying for the exam. As for the slow internet access, there's not much you can do about that except possibly trying to equip yourself with the fastest internet possible.

Since you work, you'd have to maximize your study time. Have a clear study plan and stick to it even if it means studying only one or two hours a day. You may not have all the latest materials but you may have enough to study and pass. If you can, get a laptop and get yourself the best internet possible. It will cost money, yes, but I think that's one way to level the playing field. Also, find inspiration from people who have gone through what you have and succeeded. Hearing their stories may help you in moments of despair.

It's really difficult to study in your situation but know that you can do it.

I'm glad I could help All the best dr tee. Write down (in giant font) on a piece of paper 'I CAN DO IT' and hang it above your desk/bed/whatever. Read it, believe it, do it
