Help Strategy advice

So i'm almost done with DIT, and the plan was to take an NBME after i finished it (i did one before i started with the videos and failed!).

Problem is i was supposed to be done with UW along with DIT, but with around
500 questions left i don't know if i should take that damn NBME or just throw it back till right before my exam -like a week before d-day or something.

What do you guys think?
Keep studying and forget about the NBME until before my exam? or take one now and be done with it?! Maybe a UWSA instead?

As a side note, my exam is on 30th of may

Take an NBME now. Its a good time to take it .. one month before your exam. It will also tell you how much you learned or improved after DIT and show you your weak areas and where to focus for this next month. Keep doing questions in UW till the day up to ur exam.

But since i didnt finish UW, doesnt that mean im not ready? Especially since its my first Qbank

I cant bear the feeling of failure another time!
The first time might have made me stronger, but the second time will kill me!

You've finished 1700 questions out of 2200...I think UW has around 2200 q's .. thats close to 80% of UW done! ... Take one of the easier NBME's .. may be 5 or 6. But you should also look into 7,11,12,13 (these are the latest, hardest and best correlators).

Also, I dont think you should take a UWSA coz those overestimate by a lot and are not predictive at all. It will just give you a false hope that might lead to a bad decision (like going in for the exam when you really shouldnt!)

Remember its better to fail an NBME than the USMLE. Why dont you finish another two blocks of questions and than take one.

Renaissance! Hi, buddy!! It's nice to hear from you again.

Have you tried doing the old nbme forms? If you're afraid of going for an online nbme, doing the old forms will give you the confidence you need. They will also less likely break your heart. I vote for doing one now. Your exam is close. Don't wait to finish UW.

I'm suggesting this bec. the old forms correlated to my online nbme score. I had the exact same score in nbmes 1 and 2 (using the formula: no. of correct * 1.4) and the one I took online, form 5. The results of old nbmes clustered around my actual online score. In my experience, they can be predictive if you're ready or if you'll reach your target score in the online one.

I was able to answer and discuss with a friend all 4 forms in 3 days. It was exhausting!! However, since your exam is close, you might only want to do one old form. I recommend form 2 because it has the most reliable answer key in my opinion. Also, it's the hardest of all 4 forms for me. Hard not bec. of graphs or genetics, but bec. it has unclear and confusing WTF questions. In addition, I remember Avash saying his exam felt like form 2.

Good luck, bud!! Keep us posted!

Like always, the wisdom is pouring out

I guess it's time to do one. I hope i do good coz i dont want to extend my eligibility period (it ends with may, one day after my exam! haha).

What about UWSA? You think i could try that?

Hahaha... Just wait. I'm going to rely on your DIT wisdom and experience for my future plans. LOL!

In my opinion, you can try UWSA 1. Don't do UWSA 2 bec. it overpredicts by 20 points! Save UWSA 2 towards the end -- as a confidence booster.

I have to warn you though. UWSA 1 may overpredict you by 10 points. Like Hope2Pass said, it may give you a wrong impression on where you are on your prep. 10 points make a huge difference in terms of planning the last month of your prep.

For example, if my nbme predicted I'm at 238 instead of 228, I'll schedule my exam after 4 weeks, do only UW 2nd pass and the rest of kaplan qbank at timed, random blocks, to pinpoint my weak areas and to simply train me in time management and stamina. In short, all I'll feel I need is "polishing". But since I'm at 228, I'm still thinking over doing DIT and studying for 6 - 8 weeks more (after my nbme) instead of 4 weeks.

Also, UWSA 1 is good as a confidence booster at first. But after 1 week or so, when you take an online nbme, you may get disappointed to see yourself in the same range, although in reality, you've improved 10 points. The disappointment is manageable I think. A good nbme is still a big relief!
