This is like a match made in heaven. Congrats on your scores. hope both of you match at the same place

If not too much of time, could you explain in brief on what you did right, what you think you couldve avoided. That would be of great help.

Fellow IMG with exam 45 days away.

Hi.. Thank you very much.
What I did right?
1, I believed strongly that I will get 250+ and really worked hard for it.

2, I just studied what everybody else is suggesting like uworld, FA, Kaplan, pathoma etc.. even though there were so many questions I felt new and nowhere in any of the materials listed. But that's okay.

3, I was tensed for first two blocks but later I was completely into the exam. Stay focused.

What I have done wrong?

1, I didn't practice much for the exam. I never got that 4.5 hrs at a stretch to complete my nbme with a kid around to take care of. I did only two nbme s both self paced. So doing more nbme in timed mode will definitely help u to manage the exam better.

2, There were many questions with limited information and I have to choose the best answer. This was not the case while doing uworld or nbme. In most of the q banks, they don't conceal the classic features of the particular clinical condition.

3, Also there were questions which provide certain unnecessary details to trick you for the wrong option. I was not prepared for both of these.

I can't tell u how bad I felt after coming out of the exam hall. I could count 4 mistakes immediately but the stuff is actually in FA. Don't miss the diagrams, their labels and the brackets in FA.

Any way I am really happy with the score as both of us got a similar one.

CONGRATS !!!
i am an img i have my exam in 40 days, till date i have not given a nbme, because it makes me fell anxious to take one becoz i am not through with the FA. DO U THINK A DEDICATED STUDY IN THE LAST ONE AND A HALF MONTH will fetch a good score (like around 240's). Right now i am planning to finish FA throughly in 10 days and start doing nbmes along with uw (2nd time) . i had a very bad percentage in the uworld during my 1st time. do u think if i follow this plan perfectly can i have a possibility of getting a good score. which book should i read for behavioral science BRS OR KAPLAN ?
THANK U IN ADVANCE

hi Khavya,
A dedicated study for 40 days will fetch a good score. No doubt about it. i strongly recommend you to do nbme and analyse your performance. Nbme should be used as a assessment tool to know where you are and your weak subject. Eventhough i got 6 points higher in real exam, nbme accurately predicted my weakest area. I was performing poorly in behavioural science in all NBME and so was in my actual exam. I read kaplan for Behavioural science but that was not enough for me. so couldnt help you much in that area. I was recommended to read 100 cases by conrad fisher. Unfortunately i couldnt do it. Last but not the least, dont stress yourself for this exam. Study with the determination to do well. U will get a good score. All the best.

since u have given the exam recently,i thought u could answer this.

Initially i was planning to do all the nbmes (as people were telling that in real exam we get direct q from nbme, or similarly tested concepts). Is it highly recommended to do all the nbmes ? or is it ok if i go with only few nbmes to just asses my level and concentrate more on fa and uw.[ becoz i have very less time for my Exam].

Do nbmes have extra concepts which are not found in fa and uw, ?

do u know what are the useful sources for learning radiological images from basics?

thank u

Hi, i am sorry, I didnot make one. It was impossible for me to make a study schedule and stick to it coz of my 1 year old kid. Rather i could tell you what i read.
I started with Kaplan notes for biochem, physio, behavioural science, pharm and micro to familiarize with the subjects as i am an old img and have done my anesthesia residency already.
FA- thrice
U world- first pass 77%
second pass 89% (could complete just 60% of questions)

Pathoma - lectures twice and text once
All within 5 months except kaplan notes which i have read before that.

Hi, I would recommend to do more NBME if not all. I dont think that nbme will help to learn extra concepts that are not found in FA or UW. It will help you to judge your weak subjects. Also it will help in real exam in terms of time management and the structure of the questions being asked.

Hi Hira, I know that it is extremely difficult to study with a kid but believe me, u can do it. i did not make any study schedule. Just stick to the standard materials. I could read for 5-6 hours per day. I studied when my kid was away in the play school and while she is sleeping. I could also study a bit while she is awake ( thanks to little baby bum, chu chu tv and baby tv) Though sounds hilarious, it helped for me. Also i used to put her to sleep early so that i can get some 1 or 2 hours after that. Initially it will be very difficult but stick to it. You can study a lot with the kid too All the best
