Psyche Did not attend a cancer appointment

A 67-year-old male is diagnosed with colon cancer. He is scheduled for a hemicolectomy but does not keep his preoperative assessment appointment for the surgery. When confronted he says cheerfully, “I couldn't miss such a terrific day on the golf course; we'll have to reschedule.” Which of the following best describes this patient’s reaction to his illness?

A) Acceptance
B) Anger
C) Anxiety
D) Denial
E) Depression
