I was so nervous this morning when I got the e-mail saying my score is out, I was fearing the worst.

Opened the report and it said 245. I was shocked, wasn't expecting that the way I felt after the exam.

Thanks to all on the forum for all your help.

For those asking for my experience...here goes.

First thing I'm gonna say is that all the appropriate resources have been covered over and over again here many times. Everyone studies the same stuff, what it comes down to in the end is how good is your understanding of how something works. There's a line from Goljan audio that I had ingrained in my head...."Always understand why something is happening....why why why!!"

As for what I did.

1. Kaplan videos.....followed along with FA while watching and added everything that was missing. Did not even touch the kaplan lecture notes.

2. Goljan Audio....listened to it 3 times and even then I felt it was not enough. This guy covers EVERYTHING that is important in the exam and if you pay attention he will build your concepts like no other resource.

3. Goljan text.....read it once but I felt it was a complete waste of time. Others have liked it a lot, I didn't enjoy it too much. Its not written very well and has too much detail for my liking. The only reason I read it was everyone told me to.

4. HY....Neuro and BS. I didn't read any of the other HY but if they are as good as the Neuro and BS versions then I would recommend them.

5. BRS...Physio. I didn't like the physio from Kaplan at all. So I felt I had to strengthen it and this is a really good book for that.

6. Listened to DIT once, 20 days before the exam....this is awesome, along the lines of Goljan audio. This guy covers EVERYTHING, even things that are not in FA.

7. Kaplan Q bank all questions

8. ALL NBMEs

9. Half USMLERX....not a very good QBank which is why I gave up half way. Its very easy and makes you regurgitate stuff straight from FA.

10. Half of UW.....didn't have time to finish it all, I saved it for the end. If I could do it differently then I would do UW first. Best QBank out there no question!!!

Guys there is no specific plan or single resource that will help you be successful on this exam. You have to put in the time, thats all. Read and do questions every single day. If you are dedicated and put in the effort, there is no reason why you can't do well.

I covered the NBMEs on another thread a while back. I didn't do the NBMEs as an assessment tool, I did the questions to learn.

Did all the NBMEs offline and didn't score myself. If I didn't know an answer I would look it up and learn. If you remember, Hitman and I went through all the NBMEs on this forum. We would do 2 blocks a day and if we didn't understand anything we would ask each other. This is the single best thing that helped with my score. The best advice I can give you is partner up with someone and do the same thing. Do 2 blocks a day and discuss anything you had trouble with the next day.

The one NBME i did online was 13, just because it wasn't available to download anywhere. I took it 3 weeks before the exam and got 247.

I don't know about now, but I was unable to find it at the time which is the only reason I did it online.

Search for it on google, maybe someone has uploaded it cuz its been a while since it came out.

One last thing....make sure you guys know Genetics and Immuno. I got a LOT of these questions on my exam. From Genetics there were a lot of pedigrees where they asked probabilities. Immuno is another subject that was extensively covered on the exam.

So whatever you do towards the end, cover these 2 thoroughly.

You have to practice the genetics questions. Theoretically its all there in FA, but the way they ask it on the real exam is more application. Do as many questions on Genetics regarding probabilities and anything else to do with pedigrees.

FA is also great for immuno, everything is in there that you need to know....BUT make sure you know it really well. On the exam they will ask you small details....everything like I said is in FA.

Don't worry, you will do well. From what I remember you knew your stuff inside out.

I was worried just like you are right now. I didn't feel good after the exam. Just relax, you will get a great score.

Thanks to all on the forum for all your help.

I am waiting for my scores, Wednesday I think and I was wondering if you know or noticed how long it was from the time the link to print your testing permit disappeared until when you got your score? (My link is gone as of this morning!) Thanks in advance

Although I'm american, I went to school abroad. My schedule was really messed up. I went through a lot of family and financial problems so it was very scattered. If you follow a proper schedule and study regularly, 6-8 months is more than enough.

I went over the Kaplan videos once while following along in FA. This was the first thing I did.

Goljan should be done early on. It's not for review, he will build your concepts and he ties together all subjects.

DIT is a review course, should be done in your last month of study.

I only managed to do half of UW. I started it too late and ran out of time. I was scoring 78% cumulative.

The honest answer...I don't know.

After my exam I didn't check anything online. I just waited for the e-mail to say my score was ready.

Any QBank you can get your hands on. They all have genetics questions. Kaplan QBank, UW and the NBMEs.

I would highly recommend UW and the NBMEs. They have similar types of questions that are asked in the real exam.
