Question how difficult is the exam really?

hello everybody;
is the test more difficult than UWORLD?
almost finished 40% of the QBANK with almost 5 weeks left, exam is in last week of june [25\6].. thats a final date
and in the Qbank i constantly keep scoring in the 60's, a few blocks in the 70's [random+timed]

time isnt an issue during solving the test, always have a few minutes to spare at the endand always there is at least 4 [purely stupid mistakes] sometimes more, the rest of the mistakes are WTF type of questions

for people who sat the test, and scored in the 50-70's range in UWORLD, how much does it resemble the real test? during taking step1 did the test feel harder?
thanks in advance

You're doing good. just keep doing the questions and then take an nbme. My exam is in the same week as yours! I'm also done about 40% of Kaplan Qbank and doing DIT...planning on taking a NBME soon. When are you taking your NBME ?

Ps: that mohammad ali interview is probably one of my favourite interviews, specially the part where he's like "i'm so fast, i turned off the light switch at night and was in bed before the room got dark...im fassssssst"

i have the two UWSAs, still not activated,,, there is no way to postpone my test... always read that when u set ur test date,, set it on STONE,,,, so no matter what the prep is i'll show up to the test,,,, dont want an NBME to break into tears and give a false alarm before the test.... wont stand the drama

i know uwsa's overestimate\underestimate, so unless i get 220 or below in those two [which is scary actually]... then i'll think of postponing :P

"all u chumps will bow when i knock him down... imma show u all how great i am" dude was so great he ended up with parkinsons... thats bad :P

I think it all really depends on how lucky you are...ive had plenty of friends come out and say exam was everything out of first aid and then i have other friends who say they probably wouldn't be able to answer the questions even with a book in front of them

Just prepare the best you can, take as many nbmes as possible...and pray like hell you'll get a good test even if you don't normally pray ( sounds like me)

Just sat for the test on april 25th and figured i could tell you my experience, keep in mind I don't get my score until this Wednesday....

The easy questions were significantly easier than UWorld so much so that I was wondering if I was missing something.

The hard questions are really hard as in asking a tiny detail. I felt like as I was reading the questions like this I was thinking, oh yea, I know this topic, and then would even know quite a bit about it and then they would ask a tiny detail or something and I would say wtf? lol.

Lots of questions I was able to narrow down to 1-2 answers just like on UWorld. I would say overall the test may have been a little easier than UWorld just because the easy ones were so easy and there were some "one step" questions where they were just asking for an answer/fact.

However, the hard ones were harder than UWorld.

I felt that doing questions as my test approached and reading through the answers in UWorld was the most helpful and beneficial for the test...

Hope this was at least sorta helpful.

thank u, yes it was very helpful and i hope u get a great score on step1

would u recomend i go over the questions againwhen i finish them.. no taking notes or anything, just going over as much of the qbank as possible before the test for the second time,,, besides going over the incorrect,, would that be wise?

I am not sure. I didn't have enough time to do that. Near the end I went through questions as quick as possible on timed tutor and skimmed through all of the answers. I think this was to try and see as much info as possible and feel confident about it.

Obviously after doing enough questions the topics all start to repeat, which is nice. 1 week before I did an NBME and a USMLEWorld diagnostic just to assess weaknesses. I focused on questions for those weaknesses.

Then 1-2 days before I reviewed really high yield stuff that I would be sure to see on test day (in addition to some questions). "high yield associations in first aid" (I had the 2011 version though).

Then 2 days before I made sure to print my permit, and go through the official tutorial so that I could skip most of it on test day and add it to break time. The day before I reviewed high yield stuff, any equations I thought I would need to know, and packed a goody bag of snacks/food for the test day.

Then it was all about trying to stay calm, get rest, and not get burnt out.

thanks for the GL, waiting for scores sucks! lol.

"high yield associations in first aid",is that a set of flash cards? or some online Qbank ? was it helpful in your test?

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. It was just the last 20-30 pages in first aid (the edition I used) and had triads for diseases and key words. There was also a section with all of the high yield images that I went over. I am not sure if newer editions of first aid have this or not. Hope that is clearer. :-)

http://usmle.org/practice-materials/index.html The tutorial is the same one you will see on test day, the only thing i did on test day was calibrate the audio headphones. you have to download the program and then u can go through it all step by step so it isn't a surprise on test day

2)what about your scores in last NBME you took and UWSE?
o jeez, i wish i could remember!!! :-( i tried logging in to see the score but it was expired.... i feel like the UW sim exam was around 235? i remember entering both into a "Score estimator" with my UWorld percentage 65-75% and it predicted 235-240... i hope that is true. Sorry i couldn't be more helpful there i guess i blocked some of the misery out of my memory. lol

3)what about micro and biochem do you think that memorizing first aid well enough for them.
i just hate biochem, micro and pharm. i hate memorizing stuff, lol. i have never liked biochem in undergrad, in medical school, or studying for step 1. i did think FA was enough if you knew all of the details well, i just wasn't able to remember all of the details well..., i knew they were weaknesses so i tried to work on them, but we'll see how they went. YES i do think knowing the pharm, micro, and biochem really well is enough for step 1. (just my opinion though)

about the harder questions in the real exam and details does kaplan cover them?
i am not sure what you mean... i didn't do kaplan lecture series or board prep so i really have no idea. i think the topics of the really hard ones were definitely covered in all of my prep it just boiled down to them asking a fact i had no idea on... i was familiar with the topic but not what they were asking, like tiny details i didn't remember or felt like i hadn't come across.

Thaaaaaaaaaaaanks in advance no problem.

hoping to get high score

i hope that is helpful. i am so sorry i can't remember my scores on the nbme and sim exam. is there a way to look these up somehow?
